i do wish that we could get the date motified colum or a date colum so i can sort in different crates what i just added.
say i add 15 new tracks from all different music genres then i can just click date line in the "all" section and import them to the right crates.
easy to do i am sure

Yes I agree, it would be helpful, just like in iTunes you can sort by 'Date Added'.

The date from the file system is not a good solution.
When you copy a file the CREATION date of the file system changes.
When you modify a file with a MP3 editor or whatever, the MODIFY date of the file system changes.
Better is too use the "RedordingDateTime" combination from the MP3 tags as I've described in another thread.

I would like to have an import date added to the mp3s, which is saved to the mp3.

This kind of information is not and shouldn't be supported as tag by id3.org (see www.id3.org capture # 4).
What you mean is "WhenHaveIGotTheTrack" (DateTime) - please make a request to the people of id3.org to implement it as standard. This field could be filled automatically as combination of creation + modify datetime of the filesystem when the field is empty.
The "ImportDate" information is a field which should be stored in the "SeratoScratchLive" database itself ("when have I imported it into Scratch Live") and not in a mp3 file because it could be possible that you use the .mp3 file for another software. However - this info could change when you re-import them!!!
However - Serato could create their own non-standard id3 tags (e.g. "WhenHaveIGotTheTrack") as PCDJ is doing this. Abander TagControl (www.softartstudio.com) or Tag & Rename (www.softpointer.com) are able handle these special tags.

Sorry, but SSL allready saves its own data into the mp3s, or how do you think do the wave overviews get stored? And with that info, it souldnt be any problem to save the "import-into-ssl" date inside the mp3s.

Well i think you need to have a dte frist added to ssl , as after you rescan tags or if you accidently delete from track songs and want to drag back in . So the first date added to ssl would never be changed .Unless you manualy delete in sssl

i like that too. this won't be as bad once i finally get all my overviews buillt, but for now it would be nice to know when i introduced a track to ssl, not when ssl built an overview or added a marker.

the id3 standard (v2) defines various frames (tags), but it doesn't limit you to those frames--it has support for custom frames defined by apps, such as SSL.
btw: you quoted a v2.3 document which is over 6 years old. v2.4 is now out and older versions are considered deprecated.

hi everyone, i would also like to see this feature in SSL, ill be honest and say that I'm a user of TFS but soon will move into using SSL, i have the import date in TFS but i couldn't understand how this thing works in SSL, that's important when having lots of songs (which all of us probably have as being djs) and adding new songs every day or two, so if anyone can explain how can i track and see which are latest files I've added to SSL in a different way, please explain me.
thanks :-)
thanks :-)

Workaround:
Add new songs to a crate, they will have a higher (consecutive) natural sort order number. So I always sort my tracks by "#"-column, then I know the tracks added last are at the end of the sorted list. Kind of ugly, but better than nothing. Cant wait for added date feature.

anyone knows a software that can insert the file's own date into one of the id3v2 tags columns (example: comment, grouping, or even the year column)?
that could work till the guys implement this in the ssl software.

Hm, good idea. There are a couple of commandline apps, which can do that I am pretty sure (at least under *nix). Do you use windows?

Under windows I use a program called id3-tagit
That has loads of functions for copying one field to another on multiple files and creating tags from filename and other file info. It can also work the other way renaming files based on their tags.

yeah nik39, im using windows xp. i know id3-tagit but i dont think i saw any option to take the file's own date and insert it to a tag. im taking about a full date i.e. 4-4-2005.
