I finally got myself a consistent gig at a nice pub/eatery located very close to where I live. Here's the deal. I will be using all of my equipment from lighting to P.A. to Turntables, Cd players ect. I am so tired of doing the mobile thing that I decided to talk the manager into letting me leave my equipment there. They have an old Dj Booth that has not been used in years but is a perfect fit for my coffin and amp rack. It is lockable so that is cool. My subs and mains can be stored in a locked room when I am not there as well as the lights. So I basically will just have to wheel out the subs and mains and plug em' in as well as the lights. Fairly quick and easy. A helluva lot easier then me havin to lug all my quip home and back every week. My back just can't take the pain anymore. Here is my dilema...I need to make sure all my gear is covered just in case! Fire, theft, water damage, stupid ass drunk patron damage, ect...I called my insurance agent today and he said since the equipment would not be in "my control" at all times that it would be difficult to insure. I thought he was full of shit but I said O.K. he said he had to do some homework on this and would get back to me. He did not get back to me yet although it has only been a day. He also said that the pub should cover it but they would probably tell me it would not be able to be covered by them. What do you guys think?Any ideas or solutions that will give me peice of mind while my gear is not at my home?
Here is what I'm gonna be leaving at the pub...

ONE WORD: C-O-N-T-R-A-C-T
Type up a contract with the pub owner, something that is agreeable, signed and maybe even notorized.....

unless you're the only one with the key to your locked equipment, you're asking for trouble.
Make a contract with the venue, insuring that they will cover theft or damage to your equipment.

damn, this gig seems like a big ass hassle, lol, to be honest, it sounds basically like a weekly "mobile" residency, which defeats the purpose of spinning in a club, they will probably pay shit, and you still gotta do all that bullshit? fuck that man. contracts? sure, they might sign, but when shit hits the fan, that contract dont mean shit, blah blah blah, lawyer this, court that, they'll fuck you regardless.

one more thing, that is kind of a big committment for the both of you.
what if next week, this other DJ's says he'll DJ for free and he'll bring all his shit. or something like that, that shit is bound to happen, that shit just happened to me. I mean congradulation on a residency, but leaving euipment their is a big committment. I guess leaving that shit their would "secure" your residency more, but in the end, you never know how long your gonna be their.

I guess I could always exhibit the GLOCK 23 and my big 320 lb ass for extra added pressure on the owner if need be as well as the kareoke jocks...lol.
But seriously, they do kareoke on Thursdays and these guys set up on the stage cause there is not enought room in the booth. Then on Fridays and Saturdays its bands on the stage..so hopefully I will make everything work out.
I also found a company whom I believe will insure my quip.
I have done alot of research on this place and have watched how management take care of buisiness. They seem to be very professional as well as responsible at the same time.
I appriciate all of you guys input and I will let you know how it goes.
In the end I can't let that grand for one nights work a week pass me by. Hell, you gotta sacrifice somewhere for that kind of cheese!

I gotta a full time job....and yeah I think you got the right idea..we are on the same page. As far as doing mobiles, I am just plain tired of lugging all my stuff around. If I could only have me some roadies..lol
To be honest, I have thought about stopping the whole mobile deal several times. If I did, don't get me wrong...I would definatley miss the loot, but I always know that I will still have my love for music and the satisfaction that whenever I want I can go and mix some tracks together just for the hell of it which is what started me out in this whole deal in the first place.
By the way....I am not making a grand, it's more like half of that which still ain't bad...I was just seein' what kind of reaction I might get from the haters..lol

if you're getting $500 per night for that gig (which i'm assuming runs 10pm - 2am), then that's a different story. insurance should only be a couple hundy/year (or less). just make sure you read all the fine print on that policy!

Damn! See how they do us? I think alot of these venues don't know how tough it is to provide them with a reliable and quality music service. They just wanna pay the least they possibly can to get it done and reap ALL the benefits (i.e. drink sales)

Im in sorta the same situation DjRekTek.Fortunatly I spin for my friend/The Promter and not the actual owner. The place has there own system but they have CD players and I use 1200's that I take back home with me every Fri.and they have diferent speakers setup to different amps.At one time The speakers I was hearing sounded like shit so I said I would bring my own.I eventually checked out the other speakers and said that I was going to use them because the pay is not worth my while for using my stuff. My boy said that was cool that he had suggested this in the first place.I must have missed that.So for now Im just bringing my turntables and SSL and using there speakers. But whats cool is that my friend got a deal on some 1200's and a SSL '57 mixer and that I would be using that by the end of the month and I will get paid the same.Ive been there about a month and a half now and I guess things are ending up OK.
Like I said though I never left my stuff there and I dont think its a good idea allthough it is convinient

Twin...I hear what you're sayin. I am actually gonna try to talk them into getting some of their own sound equipment as far as P.A. goes. But I would much rather spin on my own tables and mixer and such. The reason being is because I have everything intergrated in my coffin. Turntables, mixer, Cd players,SSL, Light controls,ect...just more comfortable with that and the fact that I know pretty much exactly where to look if I need to for trouble shooting purposes.
