Editing Software for MP3 (without converting to wav)

DJ Stuart (AR) 8:47 PM - 28 February, 2007
Is there a editing software capable of editing Mp3 without converting to wav or aiff?

For example...i have my digiwaxx mp3, but i want to edit some 8 bars for mixing, but i don't want to end up with a wav file or re-compress to mp3.

I'm using mac.
Thank you!

I don't think so.

You want to add on to the file without recompiling/compressing the mp3? That's a negative. You can't change anything in a compressed music file without re-rendering/compressing it.

there's software that will open an mp3 and save as an mp3 so you don't have to save it as a wav file. Audition does this, but i dont know if it keeps the tags, and i think Audacity may do this as well

Soundforge can save to mp3, but honestly I don't if it's just saving or re-ripping. Would like to know that too. With SF, you'll lose the mp3 tag.

the thing is with soundforge, it re-encodes it when it saves

maybe i got deja vu, i thought there was a thread recently on lossless editing of compressed audio files (MP3). there are some tools that do MP3 editing without transcoding/conversion to uncompressed back to compressed - or so goes the product description.
