I don't know if it's just me, but Chicago Radio really needs to change. I remember back in the day when we had 92.7 and they played the best shit all day long. Back then B96 was playing electronic music during the day as well. The clubs down here used to be amazing and the idea of hip-hop downtown was insane. Now it's hard to hear good dance on a regular basis. Now we all have to wait for dance factory. It's a great idea, but they need to stop playing Euro and they need to be on during the. I don't hate hip-hop or Latin music I just want more of my own music, but none of this change will occur till the radio stations change. What do you all think.......

I remember I used to listen 92.7 a lot in college since that was the only station we got out in DeKalb. No Power 92.3 or WGCI out in the cornfields! But, I couldn't get enough of Gigi D'Agostino and Fragma! I swear, every chick got ready to go to out every night listening to Toca's Miracle. Then, I think it was my sophomore year, when I came back from winter break to hear that 92.7 turned into a spanish station.

Yeah Chicago mix shows are really hip-hop heavy. Dance Factory is a good idea, but like you said, they really hammer the Euro. I used to actually record the mixes and take a tape down to the record store on Saturday afternoon and they'd hook me up. Now, I may listen for 2 minutes total before I get fed up.

I was in Rockford all last summer for my day job. I DJ'd a few times @ NIU for Bar One, Fatty's, & Ski's. It was a good time. I was impressed with the turnout for summer time at a college campus. You ever DJ when you went there?
92.7 used to be awesome late night. They picked some odd clubs to broadcast live from though (Alumni Club?). B96 & DJ Markski polish euro mixes were never my thing, but I always enjoyed when bad boy bill would rock B96 late night.

Nah, I dj'd frat parties and for some student organizations. Never got into the bars, but I've been to fatty's and and Bar One on many occassions and I always thought, man, I could really dj here, but never put forth the effort...to busy with school and crap.
I don't know what happened to all the old school B96 dj's, except for Bobby D, heard he has a residency at the Bamboo Room. Bad Boy Bill used to tear it up when I was a kid...Bangin the Box vol 1 was my first house mix I ever bought and still love it!

Euro is so washed up. I don't know why most of those DJs still have jobs spinning it. The days of The Galaxy Club & Zero Gravity are over. There are some exceptions though. Tony 2 Much now goes my Tony Arzadon, Mixin Marc is now Marc Ryan, & Billy The Kid is now Bill Basil - They rock sets with Karl-R at Level now which is still a good place to here great sets.
Man I remember late 90's when EDM was so popular down town. I only wish I had been of age back then so I could of partaken in the club scene...I used to tell my parents I was sleeping at a friends and go downtown to help promoter teams set up for raves haha. EDM is a crazy genre now. With the pop trance movement pretty much over in America, and Rave's generally a thing of the past, it's hard to tell where the future of the genre is now.
Any of you Chicago guys have other comments about electronic music in Chicago these days?

I'd say house is alive and well in Chicago, hell, it's the birthplace! I dont' think Mark Farina or Derrick Carter will ever stop spinning in Chicago. However, I do hear some techno and hard house here and there. But I can say I have not heard any trance (Paul Van Dyk or Ferry Corsten type)or Euro at any of the clubs I've been to. I think those type of EDM have perished here. I've gotten away with playing some old Euro stuff (Ondina - Dance into the night, Crush - Jellyhead, etc.) when I used to spin at Sauce, but they were never large crowds. Got some good reactions though. I do miss some of that stuff though. That's what I grew up clubbing on! Remember when everyone used to go crazy for Ann Lee's 2 times?

Yeah house is alive and well. I love the music, but in a club setting, I think it lacks the energy of trance and euro nights back in the day.
Haha, I do remember Ann Lee. I also remember the first time Toca's Miracle and Sandstorm were dropped in the clubs.....people went crazy; ATB tracks too. Then of course Sandstorm got waaay overplayed.

I hate to admit it, but I still love sandstorm. When that song dropped, I used to go crazy and all the lights would go crazy, and everybody else went crazy! Even got played on SNL

Lol. Even though the song is ruined for me from overplaying, I'll never forget the energy when it first came out.

wait a sec, maybe i am really old relatively speaking here. i still remember when Farley Jackmaster Funk was a DJ on WGCI and Frankie Hollywood Rodriguez was on WBMX and I had a pyramid mixer I bought from a DJ from WGCI. I couldn't get enough of the music, so I bought my own turntables and records. This is becoming a confession.
back on topic, chicago radio back then didn't have a good rep of supporting local artists. maybe nothing changes....

Well ive said it before in another thread WCRX 88.1 which is the columbia college radio station plays a lot of good house from my experience,. Usually i catch it during the afternoon to evening hours for the most part. Also if u can tune in on saturdays from about 9-midnight they usually have djs come in laying down some sets which are good for the most part and actually i think after they throw on some good underground hip hop sets. Only problem is that if u are far outside chicago u might not get any reception but if ur in chicago i suggest u guys give it a listen as its better than a lot of the commercial bullshit thats played on b96 wgci etc etc.

I used to be an on air jock for 88.1 when I was at school there about a year ago. You can listen online now. WCRX.net. Most of Chicago radio is garbage. You have the Kiss FM/B96 stations that battle over how many times they can play sexyback an hour and even at night the mix shows just hurt.
But as far as places to go for decent dance music SMARTBAR on clark. Its under the Metro and has a great sound system with wonderful DJ's. No attitude either and I cover is normally 0-10 Bucks.
