Problems with the ttm 57sl

Mr. Goodkat 12:19 AM - 27 February, 2007
I'm still learning the mixer and I'm hoping that maybe some peeps can help me with these issues.

1. Too many buttons too close together, way too easy to hit the reverse button in the middle of a mix. The kill buttons don't stick, which is good sometimes and not so good other times. All buttons should be backlit, since they are the size of a skittle and black.

2. I could be wrong about this but I'm gonna try to explain: With the groups, {1-6 buttons}, If I want to switch from the efx group 6 to to a delay out, and then use a cue point in group 1 or 2, I would have to push (1)group, then push the (2) delay button, then push (3) deck, then push group(4), then push the (5) cue point? Could I just permanently make a delay an flexfx full time?

3.No toggle to switch from CD player to phono, not a very quick switch if need be, and with 4 positions it can be very confusing.

4. Crossfader and Channel Fader contacts- I wrote another post about this, but i used ttm 56s for a long time with out this happening. the contact for the fader got pushed back, where the channel fader only cut if moved all the way to slow. It got fixed, but only after a couple nites of confusion and 2 or 3 blown mixes.

I think its a pretty good mixer over all(much better sound and outs than ttm 56), but overpriced and average to below average efx implementation and execution.

you can set the Kill switches to latch in the 57 hardware set-up menu.

check this post on how to use the FLEX-FX button to enable/disable effects..

after a while you get used to all the buttons and don't even think about it when using them.

don't think the cd/phono toggle is such a big deal?

You can configure the layout, so simply remove the "reverse" button.

More options = more complication. Thats natural, isnt it?

cool, i didn't realize you could configure the buttons, and as far as the confusion on buttons, its not that big of a deal until it the lights go down. On the cross fader thing, the contacts got pushed back within the first 2 months. These contacts are at the back of the fader behind the rails that the faders run on.

I've been using this mixer, at the club, and not at home so I haven't had time to fully explore it. I have played probably 50x out so thats what I based this post on.

If rane and pioneer could have some mixer children(rane faders, rane eq's and ssl implementation, along with Pioneer efx and 4 channels), it would make my life easier.

Is there a chance of any other Rane mixers coming out with ssl built in?
