What to buy on my GC trip...

dj cubicle 8:43 PM - 23 February, 2007
The only thing I really want/need right now is a laptop stand and I doubt GC is going to have one. So, that brings me to the last two areas of my gear that get the job done, but could use upgrading:

My crappy Stanton AL500 carts
My crappy Sony (Walmart-grade) headphones

I have a feeling you guys are going to tell me to go for the headphones, but I'm opening it up for discussion. Honestly, I've never used anything but the Stanton AL500 series in 7 or so years of mixing so I don't even know if I'm missing something! LOL

I need DJ friends...

thats hard... how do you like what you have?

Well if you have never had a problem with your needles, i would go for the headphones. New headphones are great, especially a decent pair. I got the Pioneer 1000's . I love them. Either way going shopping for new equipment is fun! Last time i bought something, (other than SSL) i was shopping for speaker stands...if thats not the most unexciting DJ equipment to shop for I dont know what is!

ppl see your headphones not the cart... go for the headphones, its all about appearance.

Haha.

No way...Id take a heavy person with a nice pair of headphones any day over a skinny person with crappy headphones! haha

(I kept that generic and not say take a guy cuz I personally wouldnt take any guy!!)

I ended up getting the Sony MDR-V500DJ cans. GC was kinda hit, but they did have some red vinyls I'm still thinking about picking up.

They had the 700s, but I didn't know how much of a difference there would be between 40mm and 50mm drivers. oh well, they're a ton better than what i used to have.

Huh, the screw on adapter is a pretty nice feature. I'm digging these things.

i think there are 2 things that make a good set of head phones... sound and comfort... i've found that if they are comfortable they also do a good job at cutting out the outside noise. i personally think that having to turn them up more and more to drown out other music is annoying.
comfort comes from different things. but i hate it when they squeeze, that gives me a headache.
