With Ryu, my secret was to keep sweeping until the other character would jump, then I'd do the spinning upper-cut. Was that the "Dragon Punch" you speak of?

I can't argue that this game will go down in the history books even though it was such a blatant rip-off of Street Fighter.

That would have gotten you a face full of Sonic Boom from me ;)
I forgot. I could just back-up and jump over those, or block.

There is an online playable version of Street Fighter but it's not great:
www.streetfighteronline.com
Ken was my person in SF II...same moves as Ryu plus style.

Or my personal fave for Guile (excluding the freeze): sonic boom, flying fierce punch, standing fierce punch, all finished with the standing fierce backhand. Boo ya.
I was a Ryu kind of guy until Champ Edition came out, then it was all Ken. Couldn't resist that extended range uppercut. SHO-RYU-KEN!!

not to mention the flying roundhouse, ducking fierce, fierce dragon punch combo took almost half your energy away

Or the cheap Guile combo: corner someone, flurry of ducking quick punches, and flip kick (or whatever it was called) if they tried to jump. Not that I ever used that cheap shit or anything...

FLASH KICK! That's what it was called!
Word, that was a CHEAP move, although I often thought almost any throws were kind of cheap--I was funny that way. As a result, the only character I couldn't use very well was Zangief. Otherwise I had A-game with just about everyone else.

I learned how to beat the game (Sega Genesis or SNES, I think?)with every character on the most difficult level.
I hated fighting Vega the most.
Yeah, Guile had the crazy sweep maneuver. Society just likes a "man in uniform", fruit boy. j/k
Did anyone notice how the characters seemed to be going to the same plastic surgeon as Mariah Carey, to gradually remove "ethnic" features?

Yeah, I put in the hours (that I will never get back now [shakes head]) and beat the game with every character for the SNES.
Guile had all the best cheats. What are the "golden stance" and "turn it off"?

Damn those Japanese video game music producers!! Maybe it's just me, but they usually make dope composition that when people cover them right, it's fire! The Mega Man series has some dope ones too.

If you're talking arcades, they were hacked versions of the original Street Fighter II Champion Edition

Yeah, I remember those "modded" machines as well. They were super-cool at first, but they eventually started annoying me. It got to the point where it seemed like they were everywhere and all I wanted was some good ol' SF.
Yeah man, the music in Mega Man II was dope! Metal Man's stage in particular was great. I have vague plans of making my own version of it sometime soon...

Yeah, I remeber playing that one too--it had great bonus rounds, but shitty execution of the super moves. If you could pull off a ha-do-ken, though, it would take off almost half of the enemy's power!
I think Balrog (in SF II) is based on that boxer.

SF's Ryu vs MK's (i forgot that ice dude's name :)

Ryu Vs. Sub Zero? Ryu would own his ass. In MK i was always more of a Scorpion kind of guy then Sub Zero. I could also own some people with Lou Kang.

I was either a Raiden or a Sub-Zero kind of guy, but more often Sub-Zero. On the whole, though, I was a SF kind of guy; it's like MK didn't have the same fluency of movement or something--it seemed more choppy or something to me.

Tekken's a good sittin'-around-gettin-fucked-up-with-your-friends/party game, a good button-pushing game, but for real finesse, it's gotta be SF.

there's a good amount of depth in Tekken IMO. Really great characters but in the end, it's whoever's the best juggler and conterpuncher.
Soul Calibur on the other hand...
