Anybody recoding Vinyl with their 57???

Is anybody using the record function on the 57. I have a pro tools system and a VT737 but I'm lazy, plus I've been mixing since like 90 91 so you can imagine how much vinyl I have.
So I just hit record let the record play type the name and save. I adjust my gains to the point before they clip, although their is a limiter built into this mixer, I twist the mid and high just a little. It still sounds kind of muddy and not the hottest signal on playback of the AIFF.
Just want to know what other people are doing IF YOUR USING THE 57. I know I can use my pro tools rig and make it sound dazzling but like I said I'm lazy. Plus I'd spend all day tweaking. Plus lets face it most people at a party can't tell an mp3 from a wav file.

Make sure you are on the latest version of the firmware (1.11) early versions had a problem with record volume.
Then make sure your VU meters on the mixer are peaking around at least +4. Set the record input in SSL to pre fade and you should be good. It sounds very nice on my mixer.

Just makes sense to me, one less thing to worry about, making sure the line fader and crossfader are at 100%. It won't make any difference to the sound quality.

You know that if you use an external ASIO compatible audio application you can record from two decks at the same time, which saves a lot of time!

i sure do love the simplicity of using the 57 to record, but nik you have a point. i might start doing that. thanks.

It is well dope. Sound quality is amazing. You can even listen to another audio source while recording! This truly is the new era of audio excellence. I record using Cool Edit or Adobe audition and the levels seem fine... I think a small amount of clipping is okay on the loudest parts of a song - these applications seem to have a small buffer zone above the clipping threshold (the red zone) where the sound is still fully sampled.

Nik39 What do you mean? I have pro tools that I normally record all my audio into but then you have to bounce the file down in real time, which means I have to listen to the song all over again. Plus I start tweaking things. That's another half an hour. I'm running on a mac no ASIO drivers here.
Thats why I love the fact that I can use the 57 to record.. By the way I love this mixer i mean i really love this mixer

treeo730, cant you export a single track/file not in real time?
in Digitial Performer I export portions of single tracks in whatever format, even LAME to mp3, not real time.

Akiem - no you can't in Pro Tools. Big debate on that but digi insist that it would degrade the quality. And yeah I can choose different formats.
nik39 what I meant was about recording two decks at a time. I don't know how you would do that. There's only one stereo out.

man that sux, Im glad I chose DP. Im not sure what the quality issue is.
hold, up Im sure in PT you can export or at least get access to the seperate tracks, Ive don it several times. you can use PT as a simple stereo track editor for editing records.
quit SSL,
-system preferences
--sound

Akiem, yeah you can export separate tracks. and they'll bounce several tracks at the same time.
What I was referring to was the time it takes to play the track to record then to bounce it down to wav/aiff/mp3 whatever... So you actually had listen to the track twice before you got a file.
That is why I like the 57 play record in one pass.
