Where are your monitors placed?

I purchased my Mackie HR824s and need some ideas on where i should place my monitors to sound at its best. I have a small home studio.

Depends on the acoustics of your room!
Generally don't place them to close to walls or corners or you end up getting more bass reproduction (and less bass in your final mixdowns). Don't have them pointing at really reflective surfaces or you'll get high reflections etc.

I'm sure some people on here have further advice, best of luck!

btw... fucking nice monitors mate :)

just put it wherever.. cause in the clubs.. the monitors may not move much.. may not always be on the same side.. may not sound good.. blah blah.. so you can listen to steve and do some fung shui to figure out where the speaker goes.. but the minute you play outside your room.. throw your comfort out the window

I doubt he got mackie HR824's just for DJ'ing.
In the event he's into production, he's not going to want bass heavy or masked frequency monitors... hence the advice on the placement.

aight, mackies! good choice/ investment! you wont be disapointed. i used to have four of em. now i have two. i love em!

do this:

height- they should be at head level. when you look at em, you eyes should should be looking just about midway between the woofer(bottom) and the horn(top). speaker stands are highly recomended.

distance- reference monitors (unlike club speakers) have a wide sound dispersment (club speakers are built to cover distance in a larger room). that means monitors are designed to be close to you as in a studio room situation. they should be about 3-4 feet away from your head ideally.

placement- one to your lft and one two your rt. dont worry about how close they are to the wall BECAUSE!!!!! hr8 24's are adjustable according to your acoustic space!!! look at the back your speakers, the diagrams are self explanitory. refer to the owners manual as well. choose a, b, or c according to your room. run the rest of the settings at "normal".

positioning- make sure the both faces of the speakers are pointing at your face and not in some other direction (so they should be angled inward to your mixer where you will be standing/sitting) a speaker is like a gun, it hits what its aimed at. the sound is directional. stand infront of it then to left and then right as a test. you will notice that you will hear the sound best directly infront of it rather than to the side. bass frequencies are omnidirectional. mids and highs are not.

sound treatment is a whole other story-

hope this helps:)

I use these at home and they're pretty good flat responce monitors. You made a purchase you'll be well pleased with.

You'll find the proper set-up specs on Mackie's site. Enjoy your new gear.
