1.7 as in serato 1.7 right??...i read a few comments from people that used this and seem to get lower sound. didnt seem they were happy with this.

does anyone know what is a correct level or what is recommended that gives the best sound.

There is a normalize feature in Cool Edit Pro. I want to say it's in Edit -> Amplitude -> Normalize

as far as i know, cool edit pro will not do batch normalize. unless there is a new version i haven't seen.

if someone has a file that is normalized at 0db, and then serato 1.7 normalizes it to -3db,.. then yes it will sound quiter,.. everything else remaining the same.

of course most of the rest of the files on your collection are probably < -3db. it would make those louder.

the point of normalization is not to make your songs louder. it is to make them consistent. if it changes 0db to peak -3db, who cares. the fact that your files are all consistent should be the focus here, not the fact the 0db files are gained a little quieter.

in my opinion 0db peak files sound distorted in serato anyway. zero headroom is never good. but that's just my opinion. everyone has one.

You're right, no batch normalize... that's only for one track at a time. And it's Effects -> Amplitude -> Normalize
