I've been mostly trolling for awhile, except for a few postings (including one from yesterday). So I'd like to introduce myself.

My name is Velanche, and I wear a number of different hats. I'm the host of a weekly radio show called Urban Landscapes, now in its tenth year of broadcasting both on-air and online. I also co-host a live mix show called Club 91...both shows are on our college radio station, KCPR, in San Luis Obispo.

In addition, I also write music reviews for XLR8R Magazine and do a bi-monthly column for Giant Step in New York.

I've been honing my DJ skills on and off for about five years, but have done very few live gigs. I'm working on doing more gigs in the future.

I've bought Serato in December, and it's very liberating...especially since I've received tons of CD and mp3 promos over the years and have wanted an easier way to mix them in. I have a pair of DJ CD decks, but I enjoy my Tech turntables more and I'm really into my vinyl collection. SSL is such a cool way to merge the two seamlessly, and I've been having a blast with it during recent sets on the mix show.

I've been playing around with the second beta of the Scratch LIVE software, and I gotta say that I'm really digging the key lock feature very much. I haven't bothered with the auto-gain or the auto bpm (I usually mix by ear, anyways), but I'm sure to play with them once the final version is out to see if it's of any use.

As far as my styles go, they very eclectic. It's most anything with a jazzy and/or souful vibe....house, broken beat, future soul, downtempo, funky breaks, Brazilian/liquid soul drum n'bass, and various world beats among others. I hope to learn some basic hip-hop moves soon.

I'm pleased to be here, and I hope to learn quite a bit from Serato as well as from the peeps here. Keep on!

Peace...
Velanche
