Beatgrids and Quantising in ITCH 1.7

asimfiction 3:37 AM - 16 July, 2010
Hmm tried to post this question last night but I can't see it today... sorry if i'm being silly and posted it in another forum ;)

Just installed ITCH 1.7Beta and I use a vestaxVCI300, excited about beatgridding and quantising but I can't seem to see any quantising features?

I can setup a beatgrid no problem, but nothing quantises when I play two songs with beatgrids together, I have to beatmatch manually etc...

I have re-read the intro doc and it actually says *nothing* about quantising and the only feature of ITCH 1.7Beta beatgrids it touts are that it gives you more accurate BPMs...

Any ideas? Am I just being stupid? Does this only work on the XOne:DX (In a XOne:DX beatgrid doc it talks about the SYNC button - which I don't have on the vestax - which seems to quantise to the closest beat).

Cheers,

Asim.

Hi,

My understanding of the beatgrid is basically what you've just said. the beatgrid helps ITCH to accurately detect the BPM. If you use the auto-tempo with the beatgrid it en-slaves the playing deck to the master clock. Therefore if you beat grid two songs and auto sync them to the master clock the should both be playing at the same tempo. You would still have to beat match them manually.

I beat gridded two songs but when I beat matched the grids did not align. Simply because the beat grid is used by ITCH to accurately analyze the BPM of a tune.

No quantising feature yet. I think when Serato revealed they were adding the beat grid feature everyone thought they were getting the 'full package' as seen in dj apps like Torq or Tracktor. When in actual fact we've got the first stage in Serato's ITCH beatgrid evolution process.

I can only think that it's been done this way so Serato can make sure they 'get it right first time' , and want us the ITCH community to raise 'feature requests' to help point them in the right direction.

Just my understanding mate.

Hope it helps.

p.s. anyone else reading this, think before you write. Too much bull on this forum and not enough helping peeps out.

Cheers.

it does do it. I just haven't figured out how to make it happen everytime.

When I press play on the incoming song, the idea is it should line up the grid with the playing song. I believe for it to work, both songs need to be sync'd to the master clock.

Thanks rorz007, at least i'm not crazy.

Wish i had saved my links from my searching last week but I think I remember reading somewhere that there was a quantising function in 1.6 but was removed from 1.7 due to problems?

haze324 are you using XOne:DX with 1.6?

Cheers,

nope. 1.7 on a VCI.

Surely, your just syncing the grid to the master clock?? Not tune with tune?? Once I cue and play the incoming song I have to manually push/pull the tune to get aligned with the other.

Am I missing something obvious here?
