NEW POWERED SPEAKER CHOICE:

DJ Freefall 9:12 PM - 13 July, 2010
Hey all.... I've been kicking around several brands & models, currently using JBL 518 Eon powered subs, and want new tops. Have a set of Tapco Thumps and Behringer Eurolive's, not happy with either one.
Both clip out early, about 1/2 way, and don't offer much punch with clarity.
I'm considering the QSC K12's, Behringer 815 Neo and Mackie SRM450..... not certain which to go with, but I want more power than I need.

Thanks!

i love my b52 matrix 2000, it would be nice to not have to lug around the sub some times but it sounds waaaaaay better

There has been a thread about Powered speakers if you could use the search.

more like a bizzillion threads....

I realize the redundancy of threads, but the B815 NEO's are new to the market, I was hoping to get some feedback on those. I'm looking to spend some serious cash here as a active DJ, in a slow ass economy and would like some second & third opinions about NEW and existing products.
Thanks, keep on spinnin!

U can just ask the same question in the other powered speaker threads....you'll still get responses...good luck!

Mackie 450's IMO

The Berhinger NEO's are alot like JBL EON's except they're dislexic...

Sure you can do it but the question is... will it sound good.

Is there enough low end on a pair of K12s?

I would like to know the same. Debating getting these are waiting for the prx615s.
dj_soo 8:16 PM - 19 July, 2010
on the K12s, with the "DEEP" mode turned on, you get a good thump from em.

It's fine for weddings and corporate things, but if you want a real "dance party" feel, you'll want a separate sub. But I would say that's the case of all 12" or smaller speakers.

In my own limited experience, I'd rate the K12s as higher than 450s and the older eons (haven't tried the new ones much) in regards to sound quality.

If your looking to get low end bass out of a pair of tops to me thats a rookie move in its self. thats what they make subs for. If you need low end bass but not a crazy amount go with a 15inch sub and the more bass you need the more subs you bring. The biggest mistake i see DJ's do is try to get sound out of a speaker that the speaker alone can't produce, thats when you blow a speaker or a amp. In 11 years of DJing for me i have blown one 15 inch sub and reason was because i didn't have a fan directly on it ,and it was outside in the heat but i also had the subs for about 10 years with Zero problems before i blew it, and yes i plan on getting the amp replaced and still using the 15 at gigs its needed at. For bigger gigs thats when i whip out the yorkville 18's.

Yes the low end is good but if you want the full club feel.. get the matching subs and it's game over. I'm very happy with mine and I debated it for the longest time between the new eons etc etc etc... I will never go back from the k-series.

As one dj to the next, I hope you'll listen and take my experience from actually using these every weekend and go get em.
LightsOut06 5:27 AM - 21 July, 2010
True @ DJ McKay but sometimes you can't lug around a sub. I have a big 18inch b52 active joint but I only really take it out when I have a huge gig. I need a pair of speakers just for lounges, bars, etc. That's why I asked.
sacrilicious 9:48 AM - 21 July, 2010
Thanks for the feedback. I have to buy and use speakers before I'll be able to afford to add a sub (or two) to the mix, but my plan based on all of my research as of now is to get a pair of QSC K12s and expand that bass range later.

I have had really positive experiences with other JBL speakers (my dad's super badass monitor-level hi-fi cabinets), relied on Mackie monitors at pretty much every gig I've played, and heard wonderful things about the EV sound quality, but QSC K12s seem to have the most endorsements of any comparable speaker. And a six year warranty. And I think I have a connection to get them at a discount. Boom!

i've been doing a monthly series of gallery parties using a pair of K12s and a pair of 15" yorkville subs and the sound has been exquisite. Can't really go wrong with the K12s - when kept completely flat, they sound almost as accurate as some studio monitors - in fact, i do a lot of my production on a pair of K12s.
Rudeboi 5:53 PM - 8 February, 2012
@ dj freefall, dude you cant go wrong with the b815 neo's I have 4 of them and just two alone is enough for an even from 150 to 250. I did a party the other day at a marriott hotel and the front desk came in several times and said that they can hear me in the lobby. I didn't even had my master vol up. Get'em you wouldn't be disappointed. I've also heard the K12 and the KW series, they exceptionally good but if you worrying about price, you cant go wrong.
