My first time using Serato at a club and it NEARLY goes bad..

Kam456 7:20 AM - 15 January, 2007
So i'm playing my first club gig after buying Serato and a Dell Laptop a month ago. The laptop is a Core Duo 1.7 ghz with 1gb ram.

So i've set up the wires and the cdj-1000's and everything is kool. I turn on my laptop. After almost 5 minutes , Windows is finally loaded. I'm thinking to myself, why the hell did that take so long , it shoulda took 30 seconds at the most. So i double click on the Serato icon. Takes another 2 minutes to load. Then i start to panic as it seems my WHOLE music collection is not showing up on serato, no crates, nothing at all. I'm thinking why is this happening to me right now. I've practiced with Serato at home and have used it at a few private parties with no problems but now i'm at a club and something is goin' wrong.

So i turned my laptop off. Waited 10 minutes. Turned it back on. It turned on like normal this time. Then i start Serato. MY MUSIC AND CRATES ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!! i was so relieved. This was a stressful situation and i have no idea whether it was a problem with my laptop or serato. Anyways, i continue to spin for the next 4 hours with no problems at all. Reliable Serato as always.

Has this happened to anyone?

sounds like some of the issues i have had out of Dell computers in the past.Dell should put a warning on there site saying... NOT FOR PRO AUDIO USE.. i know alot of peeps who have had issue with audio programs and there dell computers.
dj shadow from detroit 9:32 PM - 15 January, 2007
wow mine run's flawless (i used it 9 hours straight with not one glitch)on new year's night! and it run's flawless everytime i use it! (just because you use a different computer does not make it better--ohhhhhhh you are a mac user (cool if it work's for you)

anyway's for you to make immature comment's on this is pointless kam456 need's a little help on his subject.....
when you load your computer with no power supply it load's up at lower setting's (for better batery life) so alway's have your power hooked up first....
for example say i have a p3 1.2ghz
if i load it with no power supply it load's at 800mgz.....

dj disturbed just because you have a mac does not make you a better person......so if you see someone you can help what are you gonna do? (forget you you have a different computer then me)
im just gonna tell you your computer suck's?
that's some immature sh^t just because you had a dell that didn't work for does not mean it's bad for anyone else.
also there alot of people having problem's with mac book's and mac book pro's does that mean your computer suck's?

EXCUSE ME... I use a dell every day at one of the club i work at. and every day it crashes (too bad i cant talk the ower ofthe club to get a diff comp) I use macs for other clubs and at home. When we got the dell and it started having issues i went online to find figure out why... Through months of research and finding alot of diff site saying the same thing i found out its a issue wuth the dell.. dealing with the chipsets they use and alot of pro audio software have issue working with them.

SO NOW.. I WOULD LIKE AN APOLOGY FOR YOUR COMMENTS.. FOR SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT SOMEONE THAT YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT ALL MY EXPIRENCE WITH IT IS.. JUST ASSUMING B/C I USE MACS IN MY PERSONAL LIFE. I NEVER SAID FOR HIM TO GET A MAC.. IF YOU WANT TO USE PC GO AHEAD.. IM JUST SAYING WHAT I FOUND UT ABOUT DELLS COMMING FROM MY USES WITH THEM!!!!!
dj disturbed 9:45 PM - 15 January, 2007
^^^ we have reformated the HD... reinstalled all software and did verything to try to fix the issue we have with the dells at work.... never fixes them!!!

And about the issues with macs.... I would not know.. i refuse to switch over to the intell macs till they have been out for alonger time b/c i know that anytime you switch something like they did.. you have issues... so please DJ SHADOW From Detroit STFU with the F-ing name calling.. you could have posted what you had to say without all the other BS.

Was this with an external hard drive?

Sometimes a computer will do something funky and not want to start up with a usb device plugged in. It either hangs or starts very slow, and doesn't load the USB device properly.

Usually 90% of the time it'll boot just fine with a device plugged into USB, but once in a while it hangs, and if you pull the USB device it resumes booting at normal speed.

Because this is an intermittant problem with every windows machine I've ever used, I usually boot up without the external plugged in, and plug it in after windows loads.

Dell Inspiron user here and haven't had a problem in 2 years. My boy DJ Senso uses a Dell as well with no issues, and I also know of two somewhat known DJ's who use Dell's as well... Sizzahandz and Riz = Crooklyn Clan.

I use a dell desktop 4 days a week 8+ hours a day djing...both that computer and the backup one (same model) have crashing issues (at least once a day)... might just be with that model.. but like i said... after reading up on them on the net.. thats saw many many reports about crashing issues with dells. Thats what im going by. All i was saying is that it sounds like the same issue i was having.... b/c when they crashed the dell would "forget" things.. then one or 2 restarts l8r and everything would be back to normal. We (me and the other dj at the club) have been looking for a solution for this for the past 3 years
dj shadow from detroit 5:41 PM - 16 January, 2007
wow that's crazy a have a dell desktop that is 8 year's old that is flawless..
dj disturbed 6:03 PM - 16 January, 2007
Even have a guy who works for IBM who does the web sites for the club and has his own biz fixing computers who looked at the computer and said thats it was an issue that he has seen many times with dells.... so i dunno...

I too use a Dell, had some issues that turned out to be "Pebcac"
Pebcac= problem existed between chair and computer.
I do notice more issues when the laptop is hot, so I never use without cooling fan.
Crickett 7:37 PM - 16 January, 2007
