Trading Up...........?

DJ Eighty 8 8:47 PM 6 July 2010
I'm just trying 2 get some SERIOUS feedback here....... I have never had a chance to play on the TTM57 mixer, but I'm seriously thinking of changing up some gear. I have an Empath, Traktor Kontrol X1 and the SL3 and I want to dumb down that set-up. I've read just about every opinion/thread and seen countless threads on YouTube and I'm still on the fence about this change up. From what I gathered the sound issue is a non-issue because the TTM57 and the SL3 are close to being equal except for the lower db. I LOVE the idea of less shit and I don't do the club thing too much anymore, but.....? The idea of having an "all-n-1" set-up bothers the hell outta me. I've read some horror stories about peoples 57 crapping out them mid show and the so called "cheap" buttons/build on the mixer. Also the EFX are less to be desired by most and some think that Rane has all but forgotten about the 57 crowd. Most will say keep the box just in case, but if I switch I'm going all in. I like what I have now and it works!.........but I wanna hear from some DJ's like myself that made or thinking of making the switch. I finally seen a 57 at my local Sam Ash and my eyes lit up and I believe I farted cause I was so excited. I actually wondered how far I'd get if I just ran off with it? LOL...... a little help here fellaz/ladeez?

I am with you. It worries me to have everything built in. I use the Pioneer 909. Solid machine with awesome effects built in. I have the 57 too and am unsure about selling it. I will be watching this thread.

I replaced my TTM56 with the 57 for the all in one and the mixer-SSL-control, but these days I have an X1 as well for the abundance of functions in Serato. So I simply use it as a mixer/SSL-unit these days. BUT... Being afraid about the all-in-one crapping out is... pointless. Even if you have separated parts, and one of them craps out in the same way, you will be just as fucked
Buttons TTM57 break or X1 dies = same result, no control
TTM57 mixer dies or "other" mixer dies = same result, no music
TTM57 dies or SL1 or SL3 dies = same result, no music

I am not selling my TTM57 because of simplified cabling and added functionality vs SL1/3 (recording mix in SSL, integrated Video-SL, future BRIDGE mixtape feature,...)

Evil, U make very good points! Honestly how do U like the 57 vs the 56 and the box? Most people on various forums speak only of negative issues with the 57. I love what I have now (Empath/SL3/X1) my concern/questions I guess.......are the three pieces that I have now really worth dumbing down? I agree that any 1 of the 3 that I have can go at anytime, but are they MORE reliable than the 57 per say?

You've been readin the wrong posts, a great deal of people speak nothing but love of their TTM57. But of course, after 3 or 4 years you can get tired of a mixer not seeing the good sides anymore... and with the 68 out, it might feel a little outdated.

MORE reliable?... no, I don't think so. But if one of them goes, you only have to replace one piece, not all 3 of them. That is true.
Depends on what you're looking for dude, the empath is 3 channel, the 56/57 is 2 channel it's a totally different setup. Another advantage of separate pieces is that you can use any mixer you want and exchange if you like. Sometimes I would like to but then again... I don't need more than 2 channels, a crossfader and some EQ. and as a bonus I got less cables and mix-recording. So I'll just stick with mine for now :o).
You got the pros and cons, it's up to you to decide what is more important to you.

Put it to you like this.......... Every big event I been to Summer Jam Jay-Z concert etc etc they all have a ttm 57. Hot 97 is running the 57. The mixer is hot for what it, button-wise it can be a little better thats why I got the mpd 32 to control everything else. The Traktor Kontrol X1 is cool but I'm not a fan. To me the ttm-57 is hot!

I myself am on the fence about a new mixer with serato built in. I have an Allen&Heath xone92 and also use either my x1 (or if i am feeling especially daring i bring my Apc 40 so i can manipulate three decks and all the and effects) I could not imagine ever getting rid of it, but the idea of an all-in-one would simplify my weekend set-up and tear-down. I also do not like having two mixers to work on, one for home and a completely different one for my mobile stuff. I do not like to work on two different pieces if i don't have to. Obviously every club doesn't have a 92 but i can take my controllers and still have the same feel as i do now. In my experience being able to use whatever equipment is in front of you is key. There is nothing worse than a dj who can only use what he has at home or practices on all the time. That being said a solid mixer that you are comfortable with is paramount. I find myself leaning toward either the empath or the xone32.

I had my 57sl for about 3yrs now, I never had any issue with the mixer I just don't like the buttons issue, but if you send in your mixer to Rane I think they replace the buttons to the newer ones for free. Rane service is great and they always update Serato software, oh and the newly updated version 2.1 effects are great it improved greatly. This is one of the main reason why Rane and its products are great. I'm will always stick to purchasing Rane products cuz I know they have one of the best services and best quality of there products out there. 57sl is one of the best mixer out in the market and it's the industry standard now. I got my 57sl cuz I hated all the wires in SL I had to hook and unhook Every time I had to DJ at different events. Having 57sl just means more convenience, for example you can assign all the different functions to the joysticks or the buttons this means you can customize the mixer function to you're preference. enough talk, just get it if you want it, you won't regret it
Prodigal Son 5:12 PM 19 August 2010
Thanx Damanegi for your input, but unfortunately i am going to have to buy a new computer before i buy a new mixer so its back to the wires for a while.

You're welcome, by the way you should get a Mac. I use my MacBook for all my gigs it never gave me any problem.

This is unfortunately true. 57 has a lot of unused potential.

I am on a mac now and am getting ready to buy a 17 inch MBP i7 processor and all!!!
Damanegi 7:10 AM 21 August 2010
Damn I wish I could get MacBookPro too >.<
Prodigal Son 10:09 PM 23 August 2010
My wife may throw me out of the house when it shows up on the credit card bill, but it will be worth it.
Damanegi 12:58 AM 24 August 2010
hahaha, just tell your wife you'll make the money back in no time when you DJ brotha, all the equipments are worth the every penny to me cuz however much I spent ain't nothing compare to how much I'm gonna get back. Plus u could do a lot more with MBP then just djing. well hope u guys don't get into an argument over your new toy man.
Prodigal Son 3:36 AM 24 August 2010
An argument i can handle, this will be much more!!!
Damanegi 7:19 AM 26 August 2010
Well just buy her nice shoes or a bag brotha, that will prevent the fight for sure.
FlyNasty 4:41 PM 26 August 2010
Yeah man, its all worth it. Although I have to say I just bought an TTM 57SL and coming from the first vestax PMC Pro mixer it shows its true colors. Even though the (Aux) recording feature is the only thing that was wrong with it when I got it (NEW). As for the MBP, I dont think its all that necessary. Anything with 4gb of ram and 2.2 ghz should be fine. IMO, because the TTM 57SL helps reduce CPU load because of being able to control it all from the mixer.

I'm absolutely on the same page. RANE's customer service is what has mainly kept me here. Serato is great, but I never would have made the switch from Torq until I started hearing all these good things. Rane is a mile ahead of M-Audio and most of the other competition out there. I can put in a support question and here a response back in less than a couple of hours. I've had shitty support from M-Audio, Pioneer and Gemini in the past. Rane, you're going to me as a loyal customer as long as the support keeps coming.

A few freebies wouldn't hurt either (wanna send me some free coloured vinyl?). Say yes.
Prodigal Son 6:02 PM 27 August 2010
For sure Damanegi either a Louie bag or some new Manolo's, either way that one purchase is going to set me back!!! When you got a good woman you have to keep her happy!!!
Prodigal Son 6:07 PM 27 August 2010
Thanx FlyNasty, but i want to run the bridge and they are suggesting 2.33 ghz to run it properly so i am holding on until i have the chips to flop down for the big boy MBP, and some swag for my lady to keep me in the house a little longer. LOL!!!
