Got some new lighting today. Went to install the bulbs ELC 24v 250w and the damn pins were either both broke or 1 was broke off. Damn things were still in the box. Fillaments look fine, they are like this on 3 out of the four that were sent. Is there anyway to possibly solder a piece of wire or metal of the same gauge as the pins to make them work? I am going to call the place that I bought the lights from in Chicago today and let them know whats up. Problem is I got a gig on Friday night and would like to use the lights. It will take a while for some new bulbs to get to me in Virginia. If they will even be covered. Any help would be great..also the pins seemed to have broken off at the base of the bulb were they enter waht seems to be porcelin, so you really don't have alot to work with. Also I am ordering extra bulbs, what are the best brands that last long and have pretty sturdy bases? Thanks

What lights did you finally get? I remember you were thinking about some scans! Bulbs usually last a long time as long as you let them cool down before handling them, I would just get whats recomended by the manufacturer of the fixture you purchased. As far as repairing them I wouldnt want to risk grounding them or doing anything to ruin the warranty on your units.
As far as speed I ordered something for the very first time from PSSL on Friday & I got delivery of the first 2 units yesterday, the last 4 they didnt have in stock but I was aware of that when I placed my order because I asked. Im pretty sure they could get some bulbs to you before the weekend if you order early enough.

Whats up ej.....I went ahead and went against everyones advice and got the Chauvet intimidator 1.0's. I actually found the bulbs in my little town at an electricaol supply shop! I could not believe it! The guy had 3 boxes of ELC 250 Phillips bulbs. He sold me the bulbs for $2.50 a piece. I could not believe that either! I bought a shitpile from him!. Back to the lights...I played out with them Friday night for around 3 hours non stop and they really impressed me for the price in which I paie for them. I know they are no where near a Martin or other high end light but they do serve the purpose for me being that they are small, fairly compact, and they have a decent preprogrammed show built in so I don't need a DMX control. If you are a mobile this is great because you generally have so much other shit to deal with when your spinning a gig. I will say that my curiosity about better scans and moving heads has perked up since I received the Intimidators but as of now I am pleased with thier performance.

I still have a pair of Chauvet Insignia's. The only thing that has gone wrong after several years is the plug the bulb fits into shorted out. I Took the same plug off an old malibu Yard light and fixed it. Oh yeah, and the mirrors cracked on me but you can order replacements from Chauvet.
The answer to your question, you can get a landscape lighting bulb from the hardware store for emergency use. Not nearly as bright but it'll come through in a pinch.

Never heard of using a landscape light? You serious? Are they the same voltage? The ones I am using are 24V 250W.

They are less watts... I think I grabbed two 60 watt bulbs one time for back up because I was waiting for an order in the mail.
BTW... that's a killer deal on those bulbs, you were smart to scoop a gang of them up.
