had the dj nightmare , TWICE, on saturday ! i have used VSL for over 50 hours and not so much a flicker of issues. However on saturday it crashed , twice :( ....cue the cheers from the crowd !
anyways everything stopped, the video froze and the sound stopped. i cannot mind if the cd's on serato were still spinning of not
anyways i just restarted the ttm57 and cd players it worked for another 5 mins and the same again ! i then noticed i had the bluetooth enabled on my laptop as well as the internet card , although i wasnt actually on the net. i quickly switched both off and it never failed again that night . however im still concerned it was not that and it may happen again.
i have a sony vaio laptop with way way above the spec needed to run VSL and all effects are available and worked perfect for hours, any ideas what it was ? just the bluetooth / internet card ?

you had me wondering why it failed until you said Sony Vaio...
Get a Mac!!
or just turn off any extras while spinning like the bluetooth, etc.

not blaming the sony just yet, im convinced it was the network card and bluetooth being switched on, will see if it dies again on saturday !
nah wasnt the track played it lots of time before and took a risk to play it again near the end of the night to test it as its a very big track over here just now.
ps i get my tracks from itunes

not saying blame sony... it is an ugly fact that VSL DOESN'T run that solid on a windows based operating system. Many of us have tried and eventually just bought a Mac with NO problems since.

I've had VSL crash on me at least twice every gig too but the audio keeps going and the video freezes. It usually happens about 2 hours into the gig and I think its because VSL doesn't properly unload the video from memory so it eventually crashes.
Like Bizzle said too, It might be the video files. I've had to delete a lot of problem videos that would crash everytime.
They just haven't got the bugs out for the PC version and Serato is too busy trying to fix the bugs in 2.0 and release 2.1 with the bridge

Have you ever stress tested your rig video wise? Queue up a ton of videos and let them repeat over and over with the video fader at 50%? I let me MBP run 48 hours straight at my house once to see if it would puke out, but it didn't.
Seems like crashing falls under a few umbrellas these days:
Heat
Drivers
Failing Hardware
Corrupt Data (music or videos)

The issue described here *might* be: dust buildup has caused the laptop to start overheating under high CPU load.

So let me clear my throat....cough cough....
Am I to believe that the blame game for stability is now Windows?
Fellers...all I hear is the stability issue when discussions regarding other software start up in the various forums, so its not the software at all, its the operating system, drivers, and now dust???
Really confusing me on this one...

I have used vsl for 400 hours Worth of gigs without a single crash.
That's with a MAc book pro and ttm57sl.
Definitely would keep airport and Bluetooth off and close all applications.
Analyze your files regularly and brush after meals.

Sony just announced a recall on a lot of Vaio, apparently an issue with overheating. Mine is included. It gets crazy hot, but my coffin has the elevated platform and i installed a case fan and powered it along time ago for another computer, I have had no issues.
Also, now that we know the settings for FFDshow, no probs after many a gigs with my Win7 64bit system.

If you don't want issues when using vsl I would highly recommend getting macbook pro. I've been using vsl for a few years and never had any problems with the video.

Well there are lots of opinions on this subject, the thread below is the latest one fueling the mac/pc debate.
My comments are at the bottom.
Personally I feel that if Serato development felt that the software wasn't stable enough to carry their name, they wouldn't offer a PC version.
PC can be a mine field of do's and don'ts and settings galore not to mention specs and the bloatware that is crippling many brand new over build/spec'd out machines.
No software escapes the wrath of operating system changes they have to adapt to as fast as they are released, Mac included. Every software developer finds himself behind that 8 ball each time Mac or MS makes changes, updates or new platforms.
So for the sake of keeping this on a constructive level, spend the money on an OEM operating system and keep it offline without antivirus and your success ratio and stability will change in a big way.
It's worth every nickel to purchase your own professional operating system.
Just my 2c
