perhaps used fs2 boxes are going to drive up new ssl sales. new marketing strategy?
DJ Phranque

since I have been selling SSL, I have had NO FS1.5 or FS2 sales at my store, only SSL, even with the fact that I have to special order it for them. I usally have to give them my demo unit til the new one comes in. Between us and Powerhouse sound, philly is singing with SSL....Grape Street Pub is planning to install a SSL system with a firm wire harddrive hub for there hiphop room.

SSL is the best product yet. Nothing comes close to it. I will never go back to FS. Rane/Serato has done a great job in keeping updates coming in return keeps clients happy. Great marketing strategy and in return I bow to thee. Keep on Keepin on brothas!

how odd...in my area, most dj's i've encountered (even some from out of my area) have never even heard of ssl....but they do know about fs.

8:03 AM - 25 February, 2005
same here... I think Rane needs to invest a little more into marketing. I can't stop singing praises about ssl, but people are turned on by Stanton's latest marketing approaches and image sells. I think a few magazine ads, and maybe go across the country to do in-store demos, or something to get people excited.

SSL is not even a year old though... FS has been on the market for years which gives it a headstart. i don't necessarily agree that rane should spend money promoting it--like the website mentioned, they're not agressively going after FS users. give SSL some time to prove itself.

I feel you on this one and it kinda sucks. If SSL did a little more advertising, I beleieve as far as Djing goes, they have the potential to the "Intel" or "Microsoft" of this this technology.
Remember what MTV did for DJing, all those kids seeing DJs on TV now dont even want drums or guitars, instead they grag mum into the guitar center and but truntables ... another A- Track is born right there ...

I saw Westbam once, he really is crap.
I think Rane should poach a few FS users, not the ones promoting FS like Richie Hawtin, but people who are just using it. Marco Carola and Surgeon are two that come to mind.

ALL these folks on this board do love SSL, there's many more who have not had a reason to come by and post their bliss.
If you are thinking about digital djing go SSL. We cannot say it enough. This many people CANNOT be wrong.

imho thats one of the best things about SSL, utilising 'digital power' but not taking away from the performance/personality of DJing - it's hard to hit keys 'enigmatically'.

Here's a little thought I just had as a tangent. Since Stanton is marketting FS so much lately, I think they're motto should be something like "Sell now and ask questions later." Whereas for the Serato team, they feel comfortable letting people ask questions now and selling whenever the buyer feels comfortable. Would the Serato team like to comment on this statement? I mean if I worked for Serato, I really wouldn't worry too much about FS sales either. Eventually the FS users will convert...it's just a matter of time. I used to be a stubborn FS user too and almost didn't make the switch. Thank goodness for fate!

not really true. stanton's support can only get better. i do think they realize they had a support problem and their product was flakey. a lot of people still use it and continue to do so because they feel it works for them. if everyone just decided to jump ship, NI/Stanton wouldn't just have a problem--Serato would have a huge huge support problem. everyday these boards are getting more and more people; imagine if half of the FS user base suddenly jumped on here when they couldn't figure out how to set it up or had a stupid question.
i really hate all the negative FS talk on here. i was never a FS user but it's very non-productive to hear comments like "oh yeh stanton are evil--they're out to fuck you over... blah blah blah." c'mon guys: there's no war here; there's no crusade. Stanon isn't going out of business. FS isn't going away no matter how many users you think you can "win" over to SSL. the worst marketing schemes are ones that pit one company against another--that's the worst possible ploys. you see that all the time in political ads. the best marketing involves playing off your niche and sticking to it. Serato have a very solid product and are commited to excellent support even if it means not being on the very cutting edge and waiting to implement features.

SpinThis! ... I will disagree with you on a couple of points
Now this is impossible. Stanton have no idea on how to support software. PERIOD. They have given this to NI. We all know how NI suck. Their email/web form support model simply does not work. They are completely out of touch with their users and that seems to be their company culture. A bunch of geeks will simply not become jocks. For NI to change, A substantial culture change and cost will need to be realized. I do not see them increasing cost at all given they need to stay competitive.

A lot of people have jumped ship. Rane/SSL has made a product that works out of the box 99.9999% of the time if not more. With a solid product support becomes a breeze. All those stupid questions are easily answered in the manual. That 0.0001% or less who ask those silly questions are just too lazy to read a few instructions. I for one have never read the manual, but my install was easy enough. I was playing within 5 minutes of opening the SSL box.
ps. There are a lot of people who do not have a need to come to the board for support. Everything works !!

You have been very very fortunate not to experience FS. As former FS users, we have been bent over and *&%$ over and over numerous times by Stanton/NI. A very annoying experience given that we spent hard earned cash for something that did not work. There are a few people it actually worked for and I will not take that away from them. You only have to look at their boards to get a true picture. Problems there are just never resolved. I am yet to get mine resolved. I still do have FS 1.5 NOT WORKING
They even shut down the Stanton support site because they could not stand all the helpless people looking for support. Their thinking was that it did not look good for potential customers so they decided to screw the current users leaving them with no support.
By the way the support on that site was by other FS users. No one from Stanton/NI bothered enough or gave a crap about the users.

FS may not go away, but it will go the way of shitty DJ products. On the shelves collecting dust like a lot of their other crap.
Serato have a very solid product and are commited to excellent support
AGREED !! AGREED !! AGREED !! AGREED !! AGREED
even if it means not being on the very cutting edge and waiting to implement features.
What is cutting edge ? FS2 ? That is a dire attempt to stay afloat. 1.5 is not even working and now you want us to but 2.0 with more features that wont work as well ?
To stay in perspective, this is SSL first attempt. Compared to FS1 first attempt, SSL is light years ahead. Lets compare apples to apples here. But still My apples are better than their oranges (I have their oranges to compare)
Thank you ... :)
I just had to get that out ... I am looking at that non-working saucer ... wondering what to do ... I wish I could get my money back.

Also once people have bought into something, including a company or product, they are often loathed to admit that it was a mistake or that something else is 'better', and stick with their opinions no matter how ill informed and despite facts to the contrary.

Fo shizzle, my dizzle.. :)
No offense, but then you really dont know. Its unbelievable how bad their support is, how weak the knowledge of their staff is etc. A pissy company, when it comes to FS. Period.
s42000:
Yep, have you checked their boards? There is one section with known bugs. There is NOTHING. No official post! And almost any post which is a bit official is from guys who dont work for stanton/NI!
But I agree to SpinThis comment, support can only get better, worse...? I can hardly imagine.
Else than that I can only second almost every point s42000 has mentioned. SpinThis!, you should be happy that you didnt made the FS experience. After FS, I am really much more carefull about which company I buy and support.
