Upgraded to Snow leopard and having issues with video output.

Im using 10.6.3 snow osx 1.9.2 final ssl and 1.2 rc4 vsl. Im upgraded to snow last weekend and tested everything at home, and it all worked perfect. I was using the hdmi mini display adapter. I went to the club on saturday and started spinning using mini display port to vga to quick play converter to svideo. This has always worked perfect for me before the snow upgrade.

Well all my videos were extremely dark, to the point that akon and dre had no facial features lol. Never had this problem with osx 10.5.

I found a thread here on the forums mentioning to make sure the display profile is color lcd. Which it was. Then i tried to calibrate it using display preferences, still no go. Calibrating it only seemed to adjust my desktop display and changed nothing on the external display.

So how do i fix this issue? is it a vsl version issue or maybe im not changing to correct settings.

Secondly before snow my external display used the same desktop background as my laptop, now it has the default osx one but only on the external display. Anyone know how to change this?

Thank You :)

The 10.6.3 update seems to reset color profiles to default settings...maybe you had a color profile set up before that looked brighter. If you saved that setting, it should still show up in the "Displays" system preference

Nutty is right, what to do to fix is this:

make sure you have your extended desktop hooked up (tv, projector etc)

Click system settings or whatever the the name of it is under the apple logo and click displays then click locate displays, and a 2nd window will pop up (for your extended desktop)...you will have like 5 choices LCD, LCD Calibrated, etc...Its up to you what color profile you choose, but I went with the LCD Calibrated (I actually did the calibration as well). I do change it to the long numbered one on the bottom of the list if im using projectors only...its really your preference. DJMark was the one who helped me with this when I had this same issue a few months back...theres a thread on it somewhere in VIdeo SL

Nice job copying one of my earlier posts, LOFL.

Well, I was actually "laughing out fucking loud", but seriously...glad to be able to help with whatever tech issues I can, but I find it really strange that someone would copy one of my posts and re-post it as though it was their own.

Anyway, a little time spent creating a custom calibration of every external screen/distribution-system you plug into will pay off in way better-looking video.

And if you want to get really detail-oriented on calibration, this software will do a much more in-depth job than you can do with the Displays preferences (requires that Rosetta be installed since it's Power-PC code): www.macshareware.com

thanks I'll test out the software as well

I cant fully optimize my screen at the place i play because all the tvs have different brightness and color settings...... Super annoying

Damn that sucks.

I tested out at work with vga cable and i got settings to change, mine must have been set on (vga display) cause that shit is dark as night.

I'll setup early tomorrow and tweak the settings before anyone arrives.

Good thread, this is not a problem with me but on some videos I do get really dark video compared to what it should look like on my mac. For example at the club hooked up to a dell projector, i have the setting on the dell as pc display, i have tried other settings but it seems that is best for color purposes. I even calibrated on my mac still didn't help. And yes puma is correct vga display is dark, prob the worst setting for a 2nd display. There's one video I downloaded from mp3pool "tattoo girl" and it looks horrible on the projector, video is very grainey in certain parts. You can def see some digital distortion however just played from mac seperately it looks fine. I may just reconvert in handbrake.
