kagen and sixx i was thinking the same thing i loaded up on the disco funk music im hoping/asuming that i will at least get to play this for the night but i know when i met the HR lady and i mentioned disco she made a face like not really but ok. usually the HR people just want to here what they want and dont think of the rest of the people but i still need to have the music that she wanted just in case thats really what everyone wants. cuz than u know you will get the "this dj was no good he had none of the good music"

This is what I would do. Bring stuff that she wants. Once she gets a few drink on her (and she will) she will be less uptight. Also, once she sees you're playing other stuff that the crowd may be vibing too, she won't care a bit. At the end of the night, she will tell you good job.

ok but thats the thing i need help she said classic rock 60 and 70's music that they can dance to but she only gave me 3 examples elvis, beach boys, and twist music. so since im not really into those generes i need to get a good song selection that will keep them dancing if they are even going to dance.there not going to have to much time to get liqoured up there party is only going to be 3 1/2 and thats including dinner so and there prize give away so im probably going to be playing music for about 2 hours. but yeah i need as many songs as possible that i can play just incase thats really the music there going to want

Here's what I love. Non DJs who think they know what will make people dance, when we know for a FACT! That it's a floor killer.
3 weeks ago, corporate party,.. chick with influence ($$) wants to hear Peggy Lee - Fever. I told her, that the people dancing to funky disco hits would probably not like that too much. She says, "oh, it's a great song!". I agreed and told her people will not dance to it. So I play it and the dance floor clears and she is the ONLY person dancing to it. Everyone knew it was her who requested it but they couldn't say jack about it.
Last sat night, dude comes up to the DJ booth, brother of a friend so I've known the guy. He wants to hear Rare Earth. Rare freaking Earth! In the middle of the party! He said that's a great club song. I replied, very matter of factly, "NO IT'S NOT!". Usually I would just laugh it off and go along with it or whatver but no. There is no way I am gonna let a guy tell me that Rare Earth is a party rocker. I mean, I have the CD, it's a jam but it aint no party rocker. For real.

we seriously need a card to hand out to DIPSHITS in these cases, similar to Bill Engvall phrase, "Here's your sign."

What kind of disco are we talking about here. 80's disco is completely differnt from 70's disco. I think if their middle aged they would probably love 80's disco. Debbie Debb, Stacy Q, Marvin Gaye, Madonna, Michael J stuff, or these songs...Capital Tropical, Stop, Just Cant Get enough, trans x - living on video etc...What crowd is it? Latin or White or Other? Older latin crowds especially dig the 80's disco

Most people think disco is one genre, and they usually think its only stuff thats for example: like the song Kool and the Gang - Get Down Tonight.

a-swift at least she danced to it the thing that pisses me off more than that is when they keep asking you to play it and it clears the floor and the person that wanted the song doesnt even dance to it just acts like they dont know why your playing that song. in the middle of my salsa set last sat at a corp party for matel some white lady cam up to me and said "are youjust gonna play spanish music all night" this was while the floor was packed and im playing suavemente. i was only playing salsa for about 20 minutes. so than i finish my salsa set and im getting into funk, disco hip hop and as im doing this some guy comes up to me and tell me if i can play cumbias. while i just finished getting the floor packed again. since the floor usually clears when transitioning generes. i they arent the dj so they should just sit back relax and enjoy the music ill get to therekinda music if i see the crowd is going to dance to it. funny some dorkey fool asked me to play promiscuous girl while i was in my salsa set and he was asking me and trying to act like he didnt know the name of the song but he really did. i think he was just embaresed to say he wanted to here nelly fertado. but anyways back to the music anyone know any good songs i can pick up before tonight is over.

60's and old sounding stuff (I don't think they'll be dancing but would want to hear it).
I want to hold your hand - Beatles
Margaritaville
Boot scootin' boogie
(oh) pretty woman
brown-eyed girl
Let it Be-Beatles
Lay Lady Lay
MoTown/Oldies (for OLd-farts. Save it for ONLY when their in the dancing mood. Don't do these too late because Old-farts leave early).
Going to a Go-Go
Ain't too proud to beg - Temptations
That old time rock and roll
Shout - Animal House (Peak of the Old-fart Party stuff)
70's Funk (After drinks are in them, they've danced the 1st set and you've played some POSSIBLE slow classic songs. You had better have this or consider your night a failure).
Get Down Tonight - KC
Brick House
Superstition - S. Wonder
Let's Groove Tonight
Play that Funky Music (White boy)
Celebration
Gap Band hits
Hope these help...
