Well as for turntables, the standard is technics SL 1200s, you cannot go wrong. you got great alternatives such as the Numark TTX known for its high torque, the Numark TT 500 is also good from what I have heard. Vestax PDX 2000 and it's recent improvements(PDX 2000MK11).

For CD Decks I would recommend the Denon DN-S5000s/S3000 and DN 1000s, the Pionner CDJ 1000s, Numark CDX. Note that I recommended mainly choices that would mainly fit a dj that used TTs before. In order for recommendations or a advice that may best suit your needs you need to specify what you're looking for.

If you aren't into turntabilism and the likes the Denon Dn-S1000,Dn-D9000,Dn-D6000 also the Numark CDN-88 is quite a popular dual, at least where I am.
There are some other choices but you can do some research on what I have mentioned above to see if they fit your needs.

Ohh the Pioneer CDJ 800 is also another choice.

Remember that it's no point in getting CD-players with all these crazy effects as you won't be able to use them with SSL. You have to apply the effects after the audio has left the SSL device ;)

which crazy effects?
on my CDJ looping almost works (not quite seamless) the cue buttons work as well as they do on the SSL interface in relative mode and instant reverse works perfectly. The only thing that doesn't work is the master tempo (for obvious reasons).

Echo effects and stuff like that...That's what I'm talking about, man.

loop may become closer to seamless when 1.3 comes out too.

alright ... bingi, go for turntables man. if you spin only reggae than you don´t need loops and stuff i guess. but if you´re into scratching ( and that is what most reggae djs are ) than get yourself some turntables and SSL. what type ? it´s been said already. technics 1200 or 1210 md5 ( improved version ). that would be the best choice to start off i guess.
BassChamber 11:08 AM - 7 February, 2005
for scratching: VESTAX PDX 2000 MK II PRO (specially the PRO model)

for beat mixing: TECHNICS 1200 / 1210 (no matter what model)

to forget to buy needles, they don't usually come with turntables. you can do a search on this site, there is a huge discussion already on which ones to use and why.

now im confuse..lol..i was so hype on getting either the pioneer 707 or the numark ppd01 but i was reading past topics on it here and i found that they have more bad than good..one dont play loud and the other you have to keep replacing the fader.i just want a nice mixer with in$400 any good picks for me?...ps im not a big scratch dj..
