Start software in relative mode?

God is a DJ 8:56 PM - 1 February, 2005
Ive had a search and I dont think this has came up before, sorry in advance if it has!

It seems that the software always starts in absolute mode. I tend to use relative mode almost exclusively, so it would be handy if there was a "default mode option". Just to save the time of having to select relative on both virtual decks at the start, coz i sometimes forget. :) Unless something like this already exists and im being a dumbass..

Cheers.

Don't think such a feature exists. But what do I know, I'm almost a high-school dropout ;)
May I ask why you're using relative? Just wait to AJ's famous skipfree absolute mode comes. That's going to be dope!

I use relative in conjunction with the "play from start option". Just means ye can drop the needle anywhere on the record to start playing the track. Also i want to minimize the wear at the start of the records, as i often scratch the kick at the start of the track. And the needledropping isnt quite fast enough for me in abs, although i hear this is to be improved in the next version..

Roll on 1.3 ;)

Oh, and i like using the cue points in rel.. :)
Revolutionary 10:00 PM - 1 February, 2005
Not long time left, man...

Yeah, the cue points are nice. I still prefer needle dropping though.
BassChamber 10:46 PM - 1 February, 2005
yes, i agree. default mode should be customized by ourselves... i mainly use relative too when beat mixing.

and i would like a keyboard access to go to the beginning of the track without being forced to put a marker in every track at the beginning. (yes, i know i can reload the track, but sometimes this is annoying because it forces you to not to navigate within the library until you have started to play that track)

i wanted to post this, but didn't know if anyone had already. i agree that this shouldn't default to abs. i use abs mode the least, and relative the most.

when i switch to 45 speed, ssl remembers that when i restart. why not remember rel mode too for me?
Couin 9:17 AM - 2 February, 2005
Dj 3pm wrote what I wanted to say :
Like 33/45 mode, SSL remember the last option when it exit, why not for ABS/REL/INT modes ?
Dev's, what about that ?
dj dawn 8:23 PM - 2 February, 2005
SSL should have artificial intellegence so it can remember everything we do :)
Revolutionary 8:33 PM - 2 February, 2005
SSL: "You really shouldn't play that track. Play this one instead"...
SSL n00b: "WTF? Stupid software!"...
SSL: "You asked for it!"...
SSL activates the secret death ray and the DJ dies instantly. SSL takes control...

Wait, that sounds like something Stanton and NI would do ;)
Diva 2:22 PM - 3 February, 2005
lol. Rev's been smoking crack again...! ;)
Revolutionary 2:56 PM - 3 February, 2005
Nope, Rev has only been studying Russian for several hours. You get all fucked up after a time ;)
Sam 4:17 AM - 4 February, 2005
is there anyone out there who doesn't want Scratch LIVE to remember which mode each deck was in when you quit and restart?
Josh 4:22 AM - 4 February, 2005
I kinda like the original suggestion of a preference as opposed to saved state.
Revolutionary 5:01 AM - 4 February, 2005
Well, I kind of don't want it really. Remebering that you were playing in 45 is another thing. But sure, make it an option.
spinjin 6:09 AM - 4 February, 2005
I'd welcome the feature
c-j 11:08 AM - 4 February, 2005
I'd rather it starts in absolute mode...but the preference option to change that might be kool.
SpinThis! 3:17 PM - 4 February, 2005
it's not a huge deal to change it... i'd say not to make it an option (ie a checkbox), just remember the setting on quit.
nik39 4:15 PM - 4 February, 2005
I agree with SpinThis!.
dj dawn 9:01 PM - 4 February, 2005
Checkbox...simple and nice!
nobspangle 11:55 PM - 4 February, 2005
I vote for a preference check box, that way it won't load up in internal mode because the last track you listened to before you closed it ran over the end of the control record.
God is a DJ 10:08 AM - 5 February, 2005
Yeah, i was just about to make that point nobspangle. A startup preferance would be my personal choice.
SpinThis! 3:47 PM - 5 February, 2005
well the next version (1.3) is rumored to have keyboard shortcuts anyway (to select the different modes)...
Sam 9:44 PM - 6 February, 2005
I can confirm that - keyboard shortcuts for changing modes for each deck. So, let us know what you think of that, and if that changes the need for this features.
nobspangle 10:36 PM - 6 February, 2005
The keyboard shortcuts are good, but I think the ability to set a default preference would be useful too.

On the subject of shortcuts, I'd like to see customizable shortcuts for all the on screen functions. A system similar to that in cooledit/audition where you bring up a menu with a list of every on screen button and you can select each one and type in the shortcut you want.

If we can't have that, shortcuts for dropping markers would be good, maybe shift+1-0 to drop and ctrl+1-0 to delete.
Sam 4:48 AM - 7 February, 2005
shortcuts for dropping markers are also in 1.3, customizable keyboard shortcuts aren't, they'll come later.
nobspangle 8:17 AM - 7 February, 2005
dropping markers is a start, I think that will keep me going until customizable shortcuts (and subcrates)
God is a DJ 3:00 PM - 7 February, 2005
Sam, i'd still prefer a default mode option over and above the keyboard shortcuts. Personally, that would be more useful to me.

Thanks.

so i see that this hasn't been adressed in version 1.3. is there any chance of seeing this in version 1.4?
Sam 10:10 AM - 30 April, 2005
Unfortunately not in 1.4, but it is coming.
