What steps to take when formatting laptop?

My Hp laptop running on Windows 7 has been acting retarded... Shut down on me today while running serato 2.0.. Before i go out and actually make the switch to mac i wanna format and she if fixes w.e the prob is... I dont wanna lose my Crates and all.. So If anyone can tell wat i need to do i will really appreciate it.

only only thing to do backup all your data & scratch live's library which is on the root of your C:\ drive,
If your running the RC of windows 7 that would explain your random shut downs, are you?

If you have your disc put it in the machine. Restart and tap f12 or similar. Boot from CD. Re-install windows. You will come to a screen asking you what partition to install Win 7. Select your C: partition. Select advanced options then select format Win 7 does this pretty quick. After it formats you can reinstall 7.
