Guide to using the 57 as an SL1 (standalone)

I am not sure if this has already been discussed, I looked- and I did not see instructions on this forum, or in the instruction book. I see alot of other posts and alot of people are making ideas and taking guesses at how to wire the mixer for stand alone (or as a SL1) operation. I DO know that it is possible to do this. However I am not sure what is the correct way to do this.
I am asking...
Can we make this the offical thread on how to wire the 57 as a SL1 (stand alone). Please post up if you can help out.

There is no offical way to do this (yet), I posted an unofficial way here
scratchlive.net
Does that help?

Wow, this is insane to me. I cannot believe that there is no solution for this. I am very dissapointed that the SALESMAN told me over and over again that all I would have to do is bring my mixer with me to club gigs. I saw this problem coming in the store but I was assured that I would be able to use this mixer as standalone... Can we have info from Rane on this?
JonnyBlazeEcu

yes I ACTUALLY read the post. From what I see- there is still NO solution at this point... no one ever said if that wiring diagram will work for sure or not. I see the difference and that you say rane is planning to do something software wise.
Now that I have replied to you.
here is where I was coming from in my 2nd post.
I have a club gig this weekend. I was assured by the SALESMAN that it is 100% possible to use the 57 as SL1... so yes I am still disappointed. I am assuming that this mixer has been selling this long and still there is no way to do this... Am I wrong? If so please fill me in...
thanks for your help nobs... the link does give me information, but... I am still unclear. Can you tell me anything else?
Have you tried that wiring idea yet?

and I read the thread that nobs posted before I started this thread... believe me I tried to read up on my own before posting. So I guess the answer is no, that thread did not help me.
Conclusion: There is still no offical way to do this. Thanks for your help nobs! My second post still stands Im pissed and in disbelief that this is the situation... :(
guess I got lied to at sam ash.

Well maybe we are talking two different languages...
are you talking about using the mixer as a standalone mixer
or
are you talking about using the mixer as a SL1 replacement?

haha yeah man as an SL1 replacement...
For everyone that reads this or was lied to like my case...
I just spoke with Rane and -
No you cannot bring your mixer with you and bypass anything...
No there are no plans to "bring a soulution to this problem"... No YOU CANNOT USE SERATO WITH anything BUT your 57!....
ONLY solution is to buy serato again inorder to get an SL1 interface box.
I also asked them to start a marketing campaign and to make sure that all the sales people who sell rane equipment are informed of this so no one gets into the situation I am in now.... Hopefully I will be able to return this mixer or find a used SL1 interface, I just cannot see paying another 539.00 to use serato at club gigs where I am not able to use the 57... FUCK THAT! I am a college student I cannot just throw away money like that...
NOW my opinion of this mixer has completely changed... THIS is the DUMBEST concept to me! (what do you gain by having this interface built in?.... to me NOTHING! only thing the sales rep could say is atleast you won't wear out the sockets on the interface box...) I think that the gain of having the interface built in DOES NOT out way the PROBLEM of not being able to use the mixer as a standalone SL1.... straight up!
So, I know the mixer was not made to work like that, I understand the concept of the mixer... and yes its off the chain... I just think that there is a really big loop hole in the grand scheme of things with not being able to use serato... EVEN with bringing your 57 mixer to the club... THAT IS FUCKING BULLSHIT.... you guys really are god! but you should have thought about the working DJ more....
For all other applications (club, studio, radio, ect) this mixer is awesome! great job... but really I just got screwed by sam ash... with that said, where can I find an interface box cheaper than 540.00?
I just had to speak my peace ... IM OUT.

I think you are misunderstanding a few things.
There is a big TTM57SL thread where Serato/Rane reps have confirmed that this is on their list of things to do.
To use Serato ScratchLIVE you must carry your TTM57 with you, thats what he meant I assume.
Yes, if you want to have another ScratchLIVE you have to buy another SL1 interface. Mind the word "another". You already have a ScratchLIVE System, thats the TTM57SL.
Just for you (!) I have unpacked my other mixer and tried nobspabgles workaround. Surprise, it works. :)
They did. As said, there is a plan to make things more easy for the DJ. But it already works out of the box - with nobspangles solution.
Feel ya, paying that lot of money and not getting what you expected sucks, esp. if the dealer told you something different. However, he was right. I am pretty sure the Rane guys told you something similar, you cant get another SL1 box for free.
You could have answered that questions by yourself, by reading nobspangles post more thoroughly :)

well then, why did you hold out on telling me that his soulution does infact hold water...
So let me try and get this sraight one more time.
By following nobs wiring guide you can,
1. bring your mixer to the club
2. use his wiring guide to plug it into the house mixer
3. use serato
4. use serato however you will not be touching/mixing with the 57... you will be (mixing) with the house mixer and the signal will just be running through the 57 mixer.
*** now this is for applications where the club mixer cannot be moved and you still want to be able to use serato with your 57 mixer and without a seperate SL1 interface.
I know I can just bring my 57 with me to gigs- but I am talking about where I would have a situation when there is no room for me to bring the 57 and/or the clubs mixer equipment is bolted down or rackmounted.
sorry for causing hell up here.... But really I did speak with zach and he said there are no improvements being made or plans to make improvements... he said the only thing that may happen is a new mixer in the future...
so you can see why i was still coming with the tone ... of being pissed off and disappointed and in disbelief that there are any solutions
thanks for your patience and help
oh and one last thing ... (from the post above)

I told you there is a work around :) I just havent tried it out before, but it should have worked in theory, and it did work.
By following nobs wiring guide you can,
1. bring your mixer to the club
2. use his wiring guide to plug it into the house mixer
3. use serato

You're on point.
Thats where even a SL1 wouldnt help you.
thanks for your patience and help
I would have been pissed too :)
Well, he might have not read about the workaround yet. Its not on the feature list, its not an advertised feature, cause its a workaround.
Hope everything is clear now :)

Thanks nik,
Jonny.. after we spoke on the phone I actually came across nobspangles post which is weird because its the first time I've been able to get to the 'Tips and Tricks' section of the forum due to the help section blowin up all the time:)
With that said, Nobspangle did find a way to make it work.
It is still 'unofficial' but it will work.

I am sorry that the 57 didn't live up to your expectations and that the sales guy didn't know what he was talking about but in our companies defense, the 57 was never intended to replace the SL1.
For the people that wanted to have a mixer that controlled the Scratch LIVE software we created the 57.
Being able to control the software is well worth the money spent on the mixer.
The problem here is that you got false information and I'd be pissed off if I were you too.
I told our general sales manager about this situation and he'll be speaking to Sam Ash.
Once again, sorry for any inconveinence and I will assist in any way possible in getting things sorted.

I have forwarded your thread to our Sales Manager, Mike May.
Not being able to bring back the mixer because its software is simply not true.

I think that putting in an official "SL-1 mixer-bypass mode" into the TTM57 ought to be at or near the top of the list for feature-additions. Possibly this mode would be entered by pressing some combination of buttons on power-up.
Nobspangle's work-around method is nice to have, but it requires some level-matching that may be difficult to do correctly in a club environment. Plus, as someone who does sound-system/DJ-booth installations, I'm *really* uncomfortable with the idea of DJ's plugging a headphone output into a line input.
This is a really big deal here...please fast-track it if possible.

Especially a Rane headphone output. I reckon you could drive a reasonable size set of speakers off of the one on the 57
