Pio DJM800/CDJ1000 Question (or two!)

scottishpaul 9:38 PM - 15 November, 2006
Hi folks, just waiting on my SSL to arrive now and had a couple of questions floating around my head - had a search but can't find anything on them so here goes...

Firstly, I was just wondering if CDJ1000's still display the BPM of a track being played by SSL (I'm thinking probably not and maybe a bit of a stupid question but hey...)

Secondly, I currently have my CDJ1000's connected via digital out to the Pioneer's channel 1 & 2 digital ins. When I have SSL set up, is it possible, rather than using the thru connection on the SL1, to have SSL connected to play through say channels 1 & 2 and regular cd's connected via digital in/out on channels 3 & 4 or is that just another stupid question?!!

Cheeers for your help folks - great forum by the way, i've been practically glued to it over the past few weeks whilst deciding whehter or not to buy SSL!

Cheers!

1) I doubt (almost sure) that the BPM will not display on the CDJ. Remember you'll be playing a control CD, not the actual music.

2) Not sure either. As long as the CDJs can output through the digital outs and regular RCA outs at the same time, I don't think it would be a problem. But then again, I don't have CDJs or a 800 to test this.

You are correct. The CDJ needs to process the actual audio signal to determine BPM

This should work. On my MKIIs, both the digital and RCA outputs are active during playback

not entirely true......my cdj 800mk2 displays the BPM accurately when I just checked. Like joerockets said, the digital and rca outputs are active during playback so it reads the BPM as normal.

As for #2, I don't see a problem doing it that way. I do it when I DJ with other people. They tap into my mixer and everything is fine.

hope this helps!!!!!

1)i use the SSL with dvj-1000x's and it reads the BPMs accurately. it read it on the old cdj's i use b4 as well.

2) i have the digital out setup like that on mine right now, and it does work.. jsut b sure to yurn down ur SSL lines b4 hittin back to cd's to not hear that 'beep noise'

The bpm on your cd player will be what it calculates the control signal to be, not the audio of the song.

in using a combo of turntables and cdj1000's, the bpm displayed on the cdj is way off, but the bpm displayed on the djm 800 mixer is pretty darn accurate with what serato says it is (1.6.2)

Of course it will be way off when you have a Serato cd in it. All the cd player hears is a high pitched tone not the song that's playing out of the laptop

I use a DJM 500 thats a mixer by Pioneer for those that dont know, it has a display with bmp built into it and it works with SSL because the aduio lopps back into it. Although I don't use it because I am from the oldshool and can do it by ear. The only time I use it is when I want to mix somthing with very low bmp's with somthing really fast. Got my SSL list night and I most say I am happy once I learn all that I need to know I will be out of conrol happy.
