Questions about possibly using an Imac for Video SL

I was looking into getting a new computer and the Imac is a possibility. It would have to be the 3.06 Ghz 21 inch model but I noticed that these only have the 256MB video card option. How would these compare performance wise to a top of the line Macbook pro? Would I be better served going the MBP route with a 512mb video card? Trying to save a few bucks but also like the extra real estate the 21 inch screen offers.

Rebelguy,
Here are my thoughts.
1) the extra real estate is far outweighted by the issue you will face using a keyboard and mouse, vs the trackpad and portability / transport issues
2) The newer MBP's have 512 memory which allows for extra transitions...now and in the future
3) Performance wise, both should work very well
IMO, I think you would be better served by getting an MBP vs an iMac. I looked at both options myself and just couldn't pull the trigger on the iMac. Also, search the forums, there was someone else who did this and then moved to the MBP.
Just my thoughts

Chris you talking about for gigs or for at home?
If at gigs that would be outrageous...512mb should be a standard card.

i use an iMac exclusively to Vj every night. The difference is, I only work at the same place every night, I am never on the road. I own the bar.
I will gladly share some pics of my setup but its installed. When I bought the iMac for my booth there were two models the 20 (i think it was 20) and the 24. The 20 did not have a removable pedestal base only the 24 did, I removed that base, and installed the vesa bracket adaptor you get from Apple. I installed a dope bracket and it hangs over my 57 real nice. I will look for a pic to share.
For the road, man I don't think its a good idea, its big, its fragile, its a monster, and its BRIGHT, you can only turn it down so far. I love the iMac for my installed setup its a dope look, and people are always looking in the booth. Plus when i am not DJing I have a great machine in the bar for all my other stuff. I think for a road Dj it can be done but you are gonna have to road case it and treat it like a baby.
Taking a look for some pics now
