Loud Hum From Aux Out And Very Low Music Volume

mack420 8:03 PM 22 February 2010
Im using AUX Out RCA to 3.5mm adapter and using powered speakers.
The volume is very very low and there is a very loud humming ( lotta "bass" in the humming ) coming throught the speakers. I used a ttm56 and SL1 previously and didnt have this problem. Im using the same speakers etc.. I have turned the aux vol to max and the volume is still very low and the humming is louder than the music. What can be causing this?

anyone? come one I need some help. I just spent a ton of money on a mixer that I cant even use. I really need some help.

have your tried using the xlr outs?
mack420 3:57 AM 23 February 2010
no.. I am not able to use them at the moment. I dont have the needed cables. And I am using a set of powered speakers that has a male 3.5mm cord that I need to plug into the mixer output. I can plug the speakers into the headphone jack in front of the mixer and there is no humming at all.. But when I run them through the rca to 3.5 adapter the bass humming is terrible and the music volume is very low. Do you think its the cable/adapter? I am using this cable - cgi.ebay.com

Unbalanced outputs will do this. You also get a loss in sound output from your aux. I had the same issue and when I used my xlr's or TRS outputs...it fixed everything. Balanced cables are the only way to go!
mack420 4:08 AM 23 February 2010
oh well.. sigh..more money for more cables/adapters etc..
Can you post a link to somewhere I can get the needed cables to go from 1/4'' booth out to a female 3.5mm stereo plug on the other end?
mack420 6:22 AM 23 February 2010
I unplugged everyhing even my cable modem/PC etc and the problem happens with just the speakers plugged in and hooked to the mixer and everything else unplugged. But it gets worse when I plug my PC in, even thoguh I use a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter on the PC power plug.. I have tried using multiple 3 to 2 prong adapters to cut out the ground and it still hasnt helped. So, what should I try next? Should I buy some 1/4'' ( for booth out ) to 3.5mm cables or should I buy some XLR to 3.5mm ? The only choice I have is using the 3.5mm speaker jack so w/e output I use its gonna have to be adapted to 3.5mm to hook my speakers up. I am pretty frustrated at this point.

What would be the best way to go,

This XLR adapter ( for main out ) - www.buy.com ( plus a female 3.5mm to male 3.5mm adapter )
Or This 1/4'' adapter ( for booth out ) - www.buy.com

Im thinking the second one.. What do you all think?
mack420 7:27 AM 23 February 2010
well, I just ordered this one - www.buy.com

I really hope this stops the humming or ground loop or w/e it is.
mack420 8:41 AM 23 February 2010
So now I was just told on another forum that the new cable I just ordered isnt even a "balanced" cable?

Honestly, I am about ready to just sell the damn ttm57 and say F it.. This is way too much BS.. I had none of these issues with my old TTM56 and a SL1.
mack420 8:46 AM 23 February 2010
not alot of help on these forums I see
mack420 12:10 PM 23 February 2010
I am selling the mixer is on craiglslist right now.. I dont have time for this BS. I shoulda just kept my ttm56 and SL1..
mack420 2:10 PM 23 February 2010
I even took the mixer into my bathroom ( where no other electronics are ) and plugged it in with only the speaker connected and the problem persists. TBH, I really dont havr the time or patience to keep messing with this mixer and spending money trying to fix a problem that should never even be happening in the first place. This mixer costs way too much to be having issues like this. I really think Rane needs to recall the ttm57 until they fix this issue as ther are so many people that are having this problem... I for one am very unhappy.. Up untill I bought the ttm57 I thought Rane mixers were the best and I loved my ttm56 and SL1, but after having bought a ttm57 and having so much trouble, I am really regretting buying it.
mack420 4:03 AM 25 February 2010
also, the GD plastic ass screw mounts on the fader broke.. What a cheap ass POS!!!!!
I will never buy another Rane mixer as long as I live.

mack i can guarantee the AUX Out RCA to 3.5mm adapter is the problem with the sound.

u need to explain your set up are you using turntables,cd players and how do you have everything hooked up?
i really feel that the issue is in the way its hooked up.the rane ttm57 is a excellent mixer i have mine for almost 2 years and never had a problem.( not saying you cant have a problem ) but i would really look into the way you are hooking things up and the wires, adapters you are using before you blame it on the mixer.and if there is a issue rane/serato costumer service is top notch :)

hi mak420. i have ttm57 for 3 years now never had any problem finger cross. Anyway you should try your mixer at one of your dj friend whith is set up, you will know from then if its the mixer or your cable on fault. good luck
