nope, it happened last night when i did a search for rick james-mary jane( i think its a CC video with the friday clips in it) i clicked and dragged into the right deck, and it shut it down. i was like ? fuck me.. luckily it happened early in the night when noone was dancing. i used VSL
the first time it happened like a week ago i was using ME and 1.9.2 i clicked and dragged a track from the left deck to the right, and it shut it down, so after that i used VSL, it happened again when i did the same exact thing. so i bounced over to 2.0 beta 7 and VSL 1.2 beta... no problems the rest of the night...
and then this past wed i did the same thing with the clickn and dragging with beta public 1, and bam... shut down again!
so i dunno if its because i wiped my mac clean or what, i was using a program called paragon so it can read n write my drive on both pc and mac.
but since i formatted my external drive to journal, and transfer everything from a fat 32(mac formatted) to the journal(mac formatted of course)

The 2.0 beta 1 has issues with writing metadata to MP4s. Beta 2 supposedly remedied that. I had the same issue. Uninstalled and back to 1.9.2. Never had a problem with loading decks on either side with that one. Did you reinstall Perian when you reloaded your Mac?
Henry GQ
9:06 PM - 21 February, 2010
no, i didnt load it back on...
i just went straight mac hard drive specs, and now transfer music from pc to mac thru fat 32 hard drive or a thumb drive...
but even if i went back to 1.9.2 that crash still happened..
im gonna upload the crash log today, just bummed that this happened even with 1.9.2
i thought at first it was the ME program, but i was wrong...

I've been using VSL very gingerly since my first crash ever with Serato. I've been using Serato since 2005 and I had my first crash a few weeks ago.
The main thing Serato had over the competition,... stability. 1 crash is all it takes for me to lose faith. 1 crash is too many. Period.

I have been having this happen here and there, and it's frustrating as hell. I even downgraded to 1.9.1, which helped for a while, but then I got a 57 (finally) and when I used it at the club on Friday, I got another crash. Thankfully, I had the Def Jam CVs in my bag and just threw on some tracks from those while I rebooted... but I had to hard boot it to power down. It came back up and worked for the rest of the night, but at my show on Saturday, I set up and my external was bricked... presumably due to something in this crash. I had 90% of my videos backed up, so now I am trying to reacquire everything from just the last couple of weeks and figure out what version I need to run to make this NOT happen! :(

Imagine how i felt when I got a bunch of crashes under 1.9+ hahaha
Yeah. It kills your confidence in the software. Now, I ALWAYS have an mp3 player plugged in to the aux in on my mixer just like when I first started using Serato in 2005.

I am digging through stacks of vinyl this week and will be bringing a couple of bags with me to the club this weekend, just in case. Which is never a bad thing, but it means that the video screens go blank while I reboot and mix wax lol.

I do, or Henry does? I just installed 1.9.2 and re-installed VSL 1.1.1 and am using a different external... what other settings should I look into?
And no, I am not running Perian. I have heard conflicting advice on whether it helps or hinders these issues...

I've had recent crashes also - the first in a very very very long time.....1.9.2, VSL 1.1.0
This was just a straight SSL crash before I even loaded VSL plugin
scratchlive.net
This was a VSL only crash a few days later
scratchlive.net
Have played a few times since and no problems... the randomness of it all scares me
No perian for me.... the last time I had VSL crash was when I installed Perian (3 crashes in 3 gigs in a row). I got rid of it and smooth sailing for almost a year until these recent ones....

Word, I had a ton of crashes with both Perian and 1.9.2 running right around NYE, so I downgraded to 1.9.1 and uninstalled Perian, and everything was fine until this week. I think my external may have been having problems, but I JUST got it... it almost seems like the issues were brought on by these crashes, as crazy as that may sound. :(
Either that or some kind of compatibility glitch with my 57? It was the only other X factor in the equation this week. :(

I don't remember... I was in a frenzy trying to douche the machine before a show when this happened. It still shows up with a Swiss Army knife icon in the settings menu or whatever, but when you go to properties it says "not installed" and has a button to install it again... which I have not pushed lol.

It should also be known that this MBP is my first real attempt at Mac usage since the days of the Mac LC (1992? 1993?), so I am still stumbling around whenever I have to figure out how to do ANYTHING besides run SSL/VSL and download videos lol.

From what I've read Perian 1.1.3 had some issues as well causing crashes. 1.2 is out now. Check to make sure you have an updated version if you want to continue using it.
To uninstall, System Pefs->Other->Perian Click uninstall. Restart.

I don't think so fellas.
One honorable mention at the vip level but that is all that I have seen and nothing else.
But we understand that nothing is perfect, even in your world.
I'm more interested in what is causing it than anything else actually.
If its got swifty buggin, that's not good.
Always have plan B in place ready to fire is what I do.
Easier with PC due to cost, but normally I have a lighting pc/mac have sitting right there.
More complicated with video, but just the same a full back up keeps the confidence up.
Nobody can function under those conditions very well, it shatters the mind set.

Luckily VSL hasn't crashed over here. Also running 10.6.2, Perian 1.2, VSL 1.2b, SSL 1.9.2. Only crash I had was with 2.0beta1 and that was offline at home.
Have you guys verified disk permissions or the disk itself in disk utility? You've got me wanting to take extra cables with me for the cdjs next time.

The first thing I do and recommend.
What comes back is what tells me how stable things really are.
