DJ's with girlfriends

DJ NoNseNse 10:55 AM - 13 February, 2010
Anyone with a girlfriend that doesn't seem to take much interest in what you do? My girl hasn't been to a gig of mine since 2008 I think.
lost vegas 11:13 AM - 13 February, 2010
Yea I hear you on that one...my girl isn't interested in my djing, skateboarding, photography or any thing that brings me joy!! LOL. But then agian the things she finds fun I dislike, maybe that's just human nature and our brains are hardwired that way so we don't spend to much time around each other and end up getting sick of them. Who knows??!!
spirez 12:57 PM - 13 February, 2010
My girlfriend loves cheesy stuff like Britney and other top 40 crap. I spin hip-hop, dubstep and D&B so it's hard to do a mix she'd like!

don't fuckin matter. my girl loved dubstep as much as me. we still broke up. in the end, its best to be single and roll the dice with herpes
djchriscruz 3:07 PM - 13 February, 2010
I bet she feels the same when you dont watch gossip girl with her. Luckily my girl has gotten into cooking and baking so i take great interest in eating the food.
DJDeluchi 3:27 PM - 13 February, 2010
im very lucky my girlfriend drives me to my gigs and enjoys my hobbies and even likes to play the xbox 360 with me shes actually quite good at madden 10 so she is quite kool even tho i sometimes get beat
DJ_Gadabout 3:53 PM - 13 February, 2010
My GF loves the attention the DJ booth gets. She eats that shit up.
On my mobile gigs, she handles the lights.
What really has her hooked, is the raves we go to...she has a higher respect for DJ cuz of it.
So the way i see it....as long as i surround her w/ stuff that keeps her interested...then its all good. =]
Turn Table Tennis 4:52 PM - 13 February, 2010
my girl and i have absolutely nothing in common, especially when it comes to music. but she loves to come to my gigs to watch me for some reason. she says "it's the only time i can really see what you're feeling." I never talk about my feeling but i guess i let my tables do the talking.
Zero Day 7:16 PM - 13 February, 2010
haha
my gurl (just broke up wth her yesterday) didn't know jack shit about my dj'in.
didn't have any interest in it besides a couple time.. "yea (dramatic pause) its cool...."
music wise if its on the radio she likes it. top 40 ish is cool if u at the club and what not.. but i like real hip-hop better. the old school shit that has a story to it and not just talkin bout patron and gurls.

never came to a gig besides maby when i was dj'in at her schools dance or something.. never listened to me when i was on the radio (every saturday night come on now i know her ass doesnt have anything better to do LOL)

i married a military girl... i spin records she floats around on the u.s.s. abraham lincoln... great trade off!!
dj_soo 10:03 PM - 13 February, 2010
my wife djs and produces music - mainly dubstep and downtempo. She used to be more into my stuff until i started playing more top 40 gigs. Nowadays she's sort of over going to clubs and parties so she's rarely at any of my gigs anymore.

That being said, i still go to her gigs all the time but she gets booked a whole lot less than me.
babooza69 10:31 PM - 13 February, 2010
none of the girls i've ever dated really cared about DJing...i don't even think they think it's cool lol

but seriously, i now realize, opposites do attract. at least for me
DjWoody 11:10 PM - 13 February, 2010
My girl is awesome. She likes to go to my gigs but I feel bad cuz she just sits behind the DJ booth the whole time. I think she gets bored but she likes going. I think she wants to be a DJ and I know she loves music. She actually has a pretty good taste in music and I think she would make a great indie DJ. She's not commercialized at all.
Zero Day 11:26 PM - 13 February, 2010
yea opposites do attract but im not really into that.
my gurl was compleat opposite and i hated it.

Whenever I bring a date home and she sees the turntables, she act like she's interested. I'm sure once I settle down, she will ask me to get rid of it so we can make room for her stuff
Proto J 4:04 AM - 14 February, 2010
i've dated a girl who was into music almost as much as me and she was bat shit crazy, as are all the girls i've met who really know much about music, culture, art, and other shit i'm into...

i've figured out it's pretty much a straight up pipe dream to think i'll ever find a girl who's sane and is anywhere near as passionate as me about the things i love...

if you can, find one who likes your stuff, maybe has some interest, but has definitely got all the rest of the qualities that matter...
rollanotherone 6:50 AM - 14 February, 2010
I thought DJ's were in love with music first and foremost? Seems the TT''s aren't so warm in bed after all.

Just keep searching. The right person for you is out there.
SK1 6:34 PM - 14 February, 2010
LOL... none of my girlfriends ever showed any interest in my spinning. The last one I had only went to one of my gigs. I didn't know until I went over to her place later that night. She told me that her friend wanted to go to the party, so she went with her. She just stood in the back of the room, and then left before the party was over. I think she was surprised to see that I was actually good.
djchrischip 6:54 PM - 14 February, 2010
lol @ sk1 surprised tht i was actually good rotfl
L2daGee 6:38 AM - 15 March, 2010
My girl goes to my gigs, but I prefer her not to be there, so I don't have to look after her when she gets too wasted, and also so I don't have to watch out for douchebags trying to pick her up on the dance floor.

It's easier to concentrate when she's not at my gigs.
DJ DennisJ 7:09 AM - 15 March, 2010
I guess I got lucky... my fiance comes to my club gigs and dances her ass off with her friends that come also. The promoters I work for love it because she's a hottie and she loves it because club owners, promoters, and staff all have gotten to know her and have no problem telling her that when they're pleased because I'm "killin it' once again". She just smiles and tells them 'I know!'.

Admittedly she doesn't like going to my private gigs because then she's 'staff' and doesn't get to dance or party... but I can completely understand that.
Dj-M.Bezzle 1:30 PM - 15 March, 2010
my girls decided to activley become a part of my career and has dedicated herself to becomming one of the worlds best gogo-dancers....not really sure how this ones gonna turn out but i give her an A for effort
DJ Benny B NYC 2:13 PM - 15 March, 2010
what happens is they aren't interested, they don't come for months, and then they show up at one out of nowhere with a couple of their friends and see you talking to 3 hot girls and showing one of them how the mixer works

then she is there every fucking gig guarding the dj booth

See, y'all not puttin your GAME down right.

What needs to happen, is that you need to establish a protocol with THE BOUNCER AT THE DOOR, so he can alert you to when your woman shows up.

That will give you enough time to "adjust" things accordingly, (i.e. get that hotties pocketbook out the booth, have your wingman run interference, or in the worst case scenario, you fein a sickness), so you will not get ya spot blown up.

Dub, aren't you from Long Beach? Why don't you hook up with some filipina chick. There's plenty of emin LB, and they all love real hip hop! hahahahhaha

But seriously, most of the girls I've dated are girls are more into top 40 girly songs.
DJYoshi 4:25 PM - 15 March, 2010
Mine's pretty dope. She comes out to spots... tells her friends and industry people to come out and check me whenever i'm in the area...
and she's a former model...so she knows what it means to network...meet with pr reps and agents...and do the whole wine and dine thing.... completely supportive of everything I do...

Well according to Schopenhauer, we choose mates that have qualities we lack in a bid to make the "perfect" offspring; he was speaking more physically but the "opposites attract" instinct could apply in other areas as well. imma dyke and tend to be attracted to these totally fascist Republican business-babe types who insult everything i stand for, but they're just SOOOOOoooo HOT!!

That said, i had a bisexual partner once (drama, won't do it again!) who used to come to all my gigs and used to chat with my biggest fan who came to all my gigs and stood by the decks alot. Over time she grew closer to him than me, with the common bond of loving my music!

So in the future i'll either stick to my "Lilith" fetish or take Sniffles' advice = )

@McKay, +1!! General rule, the more anal/repressed, the freakier!

@Rob, you wouldn't be part of the FnF crew, would ya? Ya know, Ethan's crew. i used to spin with them in my YSH days (early 90's), that tribe is so inbred i think all of us has done all of us at one time or another ;)

And i love batshit krazy, i keep getting the sane ones who're uncomfortable with my "unorthodox" outlook and it makes *me* uncomfortable. So send any nutcases my way and i'll love 'em up :) (guess yer right, us chix who know grooves ARE batshit, especially if we mix!).

True. Fuckin. That.

The right person cannot emerge until you are true to yourself and your art. If you're not then whatever they're falling for won't be you. You're a DJ, and must be loved as one, unless you're just in it for cash, which i don't really know any dj that is, even the lowliest, request-taking, chart-following for-hire dj's i've known have cared enough about what they do that it's part of their identity. The ideal lover of a dj will be your muse, stoking your passion and making your mind soar, your anchor and your angel. But unless the music comes first and she understands that and *wants* that, the relationship will be unstable imo, and has been my experience. i love the ones that stay in or by the booth when i spin, even though i lost the last one to a fan who also watched while i spun, lol.. they bonded over their mutual love of the groove.. they put the music first, too, and their paths ended up merging, and they had a great run.

And FOR THE RECORD and RIGHT UP FRONT: THE GEAR GOES IN THE LIVING ROOM!!!

When my girl and I started dating, she wanted to go with me to my gigs. I warned her that it would be boring for her and that she would just end up sitting around doing nothing. So i took her to a few of my mobiles, and yep, she was hella bored. Then, I asked her if she wanted to some of my club gigs, but I warned her that it would be the same thing. And yes, she went, sat around during my set, and got bored. She still occasionally comes to gigs, but it is once in a blue moon...

Now, when I ask her if she wants to go, she would rather not go. I just tell her that I'll make it up to he the next day by going to a movie, nice dinner, or Disneyland (we actually have annual passes, so it's basically free)...

YO! I got away with that at the LAST CRIB we were in. It was actually the "Dining Room", AND I had TOTAL control of that piece. I'm talking a Cerwin V-35 in each corner, amp rack in front totally lit, 12's in the middle, and crates completely surrounding me.

Even had a ceiling fan to cool me off.

Needless to say, she promptly gave me the "finished" basement in the new house...
