Hey everyone....
Much love to this community and support everyone gives to each other. Including encouragement on editing videos, tech tips, etc.
...but I have to say one thing that is downright annoying.
I get random people that I don't even know contacting me to "trade" videos with them or for me to sell to them directly.
To answer all that BS now....
I won't do it!!
If I want something ... I buy it!!! (strickly hits, yourremix, crooklyn clan, etc...) And believe me there is very few things anyone would have that I don't have already or could find on my own. If it is a video that is done to a great audio remix... well guess what .. I can make it myself. There is NO reason I would trade with anyone and I won't sell directly... it is an agreement I have in place with Crooklyn Clan.
I am only going to call out one guy who keeps doing this right now... because he is a constant repeat annoyance & frankly I don't care.
DJ Kos (www.myspace.com) has contacted me on YouTube, MySpace, E-Mail, etc... with the same inquiry... and I keep replying with the same answer... NO!!! but he continues to ask like I never he never contacted me before....
STOP THE MADNESS!!!

People dont want to put in there time, they just want it the easy way. i know there have been a few of us collecting Videos over the last 7 years. I have stuff that PO doesnt even sell anymore.
So for those of you looking to get Videos.......Get a subscription to PromoOnly, Rock America, ScreenPlay, MixMash and some of the pools that are mentioned on this site, and quit beggin to leech em. I think many DJ's learned their leason's with MP3's. I had MP3's when it was all underground in the NERD world, before MP3 players existed...talking early 90's.

Add me to the list as well. I also have people asking me for "trades" and just plain "hook a brother up" statements. And in all cases I say NO!
I don;t sell my edits, and so far I have not purchased any edits from any "remix" companies like crooklyn clan because my my view of them.
Videos are expensive! Time to re-edit them is expensive! Why would I just give that away to anyone?

believe me I was nice to DJ Kos when he first asked me... and I did tell him I can't sell to him directly or even trade. I told him the same thing as far as where to get videos subscription or even buying single tracks. But then... he messaged me again... and again... and again... again... and again.. It usually takes a lot for me to be rude and VERY direct ... I flat out told him I don't know you and I think really want to know you.
BTW... he did respond to that message back and said he was just trying to connect to others in the industry. Well... he connected alright... I just disconnected him.

As a remixer for these companies you are in a pretty fortunate spot Al.
You probably have free access to pretty much any content you want from their existing libraries, so you are a natural target.
If might be best to keep your occupational contacts a little more secret than in email sigs, and its probably already on the chyrons during playback.
Word spreads fast.
I don't know many dj's who don't share honestly, but I don't mean sell or just give away tracks to those who aren't on the same level content wise.
I know of a couple of invitation only sharing networks that pool resources and have all of the non current as well as current PO and SP monthly's even weekly's up within days of release. Its international also, so its somewhat of a buffet so to speak.
So I am only saying you could protect yourself better.
A different name or names or something, being famous can be a PITA.
I am one who spent thousands right up front and ripped my ass for months getting it loaded. What I didn't have I got at Walmart, Amazon, Tower and others to fill the holes.
So I am in no hurry to leak that naturally.
It pisses me off no end to see people get for free or steal what I had to pay through the nose for, so I hear ya.
The problem is like sex, you have it once and you essentially are having it with everybody your partner has had it with and then have lost total control over it with no recourse.
It only takes one time to get taken and the next thing you know the dude is in the next room with your collection up on the screens.

ha! good one.
the best advice i would give anyone is to just be "cool"
don't bug people for shit, don't beg don't offer to buy, and don't ask.
i have only a few connections and they were all gotten from simply not being annoying and just being friendly. some of those people i connected with really well and they have hooked me up more than i can probably ever repay.

Ive mentioned this before, but i have a few "friends" for lack of better terms, that
have pretty much NEVER paid for a music or a video....
yet, they still hit me up for videos on the regular.
which I always, like i do for everyone, give my productions away for free
(its just where Im at in my production career, I dont feel my stuff is a
professional grade to warrant compensation)
but they still want EVERYTHING.
and they already sitting on over 3+TBs of VOBS... Its like greed almost.
granted these boys are all on pirated VDJ, and doing mostly mobile gigs.

this is also a standard method of operation for freejays. one of the reasons why i plan to add more tricks to my bag to give myself some separation.

its totally new rules now-a-days.
expectedly so.
I remember I went to see Carl Cox at Avalon in Id say 2003.
I was able to get in the booth and rub elbows a little bit. talk to his opener...
be a big shot :-)
after talking to his opener, about where CC gets his music I pretty much learned that he hadnt bought any music in a few years. Owning Intec he was getting obviously everything that came into that label... and his best buds owned all the main techno labels at that time. (Bush,Prime-evil,20/20)
so of course this elite cadre of DJs jet-setting the country getting anywhere from 5000 to 20,000 a gig were all playing shared music.
(yes, yes I know...It was shared by the creators and owners of the music...not by the consumers)
but on some level it IS a sort of acceptable level of sharing. (mainly because they
own the rights to them...)
.
.
.
BUT NOT ALL OF THEM... they certainly shared everything else.
(not making it right)
dont mis-understand me here, Im not supporting sharing.
but I think sharing among production artists is another thing, sadly in the video game
NONE of us own the rights to the videos(like they owned the remixes/songs they made), no matter what we do with them production wise...
but when one of us makes a video, and we choose to circulate it, thats an acceptable (though illegal) form of sharing (or circulating)
but, the Hey...let me cherry-pick your harddrive!
that a whole nother ball of spikes.

I handed out some demo video mixes around town. Good thing I put my logo on the bottom corner, cause the clubs that didn't hire me are playing them! Worst part is I made them 320x480 at 15fps to fit on the disc, now they look like ass on the big screens, with my logo on them!....

The bad part about this is it makes you look bad... Wouldn't it have been better to water mark the whole thing "DEMO MIX - NOT FOR CLUB PLAY" on the the screen, but make the demo full resolution at full frame rate.
