KRK Rokit Studio Monitors on Sale at Guitar Center

DJ Guayo 1:37 PM - 3 February, 2010
i was wondering if anyone else got the monthly sale magazine and notice on the front cover that it says 'buy one RP6 get the second free'. However when you turn to the page where its listed, it says 'buy one get the second one half off'. i will be calling later today to find out.
Dj-M.Bezzle 2:06 PM - 3 February, 2010
huh i didnt see that at all, all i saw was the red rokit 5 for 150...let em know what you find out
DJYoshi 2:10 PM - 3 February, 2010
STAY AWAY! I hate bashing on sh** but I had KRK monitors for a good 2 weeks before they blew out. got a 2nd pair..blew out again.
The purpose of monitors is to give you a "true" sound.
KRK's internal crossover doesn't output a true sound. it's almost as if it's EQ'd. Just get a pair of Events and you're good to go
Dj-M.Bezzle 2:24 PM - 3 February, 2010
Ive never had a problem with them blowing (no kardashian) i had a pair that i used as moniters in my booth at my residency and they took a BEATING for over a year, i sold them when i quit the residency and bought a new pair about a month ago to use as moniters in my home setup and they run GREAT.....I do agree that they dont represent true sound they def add stuff thats not there
freshtodeath 2:54 PM - 3 February, 2010
Small monitors like the RP6 are not meant to blasted with a DJ setup, always use a sub like the 10s. The shitty cone in the RP6 cant handle all that movement.

KRK is owned by Stanton or something.

Never had isues with my KRK monitors... of course, I don't blast them and I DON'T USE THEM AT THE CLUB as they're not meant for that.

my home studio uses dual woofers that I cut out whenever I'm mastering to get the true representation of the sound...b/c well that's what monitors are supposed to be used for.
But there's something about the roll of the KRK's and the bass that just doesn't sound right when you compare to other monitors...when they're supposed to sound flat, they sound brighter. just my opinion.

As for club and events.. if the booth isn't already equipped with a monitor.. I always ask for something like the Yorkville NX750P to be there as my monitor. love that sound in the booth
DJ Guayo 5:35 PM - 3 February, 2010
well unfortunately my initial thoughts are true... it is a typo. its not 'buy one RP6 monitor get the second free' its the latter 'buy one get the other half off'. they had me on hold for a good 10 min looking for the print.
DJ Ritmo 5:41 PM - 3 February, 2010
the M-audio BX5a sound great mine are 6 years old and they still rock
SuckaDJ 6:34 PM - 3 February, 2010
KRK's are good in my book! +1

Ive had the white RP6's for almost two years now, i BUMP them daily. No probs. I agree with them being a bit colored in sound though.
DJ Koeul Benny 3:22 AM - 4 February, 2010
are any of you running off comp sound card ? i have a pair of e8s, vxt 6 rear and 10s sub and never had problems i run lexicon omega card

also a quick tip is if your mixes are too colored boost the high freq in the back of your monitors it will force you to tone down your highs and your final mix will be less colored
treeo730 4:53 AM - 4 February, 2010
krk's are good, nice bass response on anything higher than 6... I run ns10 shitty sound :)

Anyone have or had a set of yamaha hs80m's? Stepping up a couple inches, I'm stuck between these and the rokit 8's.

If your looking for just house/dj speakers, I would say take a listen to the Alesis M1 active I believe, the older model not the USB one's. Those are really bass heavy--hence why they weren't very good int he studio-- but for listening and bass they are great, plus you get a pair for about the same price as the Yamaha. Now if your looking for studio monitors, at that price point I would recommend looking at the JBL LSR series, really great stuff for decent money, but the yamaha'a are nice too, less fatigue on the LSR though. Also take a listen to Event, really clean sound too, but the KRK's are nice as well, I used the older model before and they were good, a little more in the mids though and a little rougher horn, but decent speaker for the price.

Right now I have the older Alesis M1 actives... kind of funny They're just pretty worn out. 1/4 connections aren't very good anymore. The cords have to be in the perfect position or I get static. Figured it's time to upgrade.

Thanks for the info :)

Dude dont bash KRK, sounds like your just too cheap to buy good KRK's. You had Rokits prolly. I have a pair of KRK VXT 8's and they are the best monitors out there!!!

Tony just giving my opinion on the bass response not being "true". It's opinion-based. And I'm rockin Event monitors and woofers.... so I'm definitely not CHEAP when it comes to sound

i've got a pair of RP8s at home and some VXT8s in the studio - both sound great and never had any problems - likes the RP8s better than the Event 20/20s, but neither was terrible by any stretch. Event is not really in a different price league from KRK though.

i had 4 rokit 8's...never had any problems...beat em up pretty good too...

I can't decide between the rokit 8's and the vxt8's.
Is it worth an extra $500 for the pair to go with the VXT8's?

Hello Fellas, i am looking for a pair of monitors and was looking at the JBL LSR (5 inch woofers) ..Im gonna be making Electro Bass Tracks..do you think these will do? Since Im just starting..i was wondering if i should just maybe look for a pair of used bigger monitors. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
treeo730 9:07 PM - 6 September, 2010
Bigger is not better, for what you are doing you should be fine. The LSR are good speakers, but I would also invest in some headphones if your looking to get the sound just right. If you're not an engineer, then I wouldn't stress to much about it. Mastering is a whole other ball-game.
