Serato Itch Recording

shannonharvey 4:34 PM - 2 February, 2010
Hello All,

I've read that Itch Allows for recording, but I for some reason or another cannot find this feature...can someone here direct me to a place that allows me to do this?

Thanks

look above the right deck on the screen... you will see a little 'REC' click on it and it will start recording....
name it and press save when done

And also, right next to the REC button, make sure MIX is selected. As that will record directly what you're hearing in the master out. Ensure that the recording meter level doesn't hit the red light (clipping) for optimal sound. To adjust it, there's a little knob icon which you can twist or you can always fine tune with your gain.

is there away to cut the tracks so that it does not play on one continuous track? I'm sure it may need to be done on another program ... any recommendations?

I'm presuming you want to split the tracks so as to make a presentable Mix CD?

Konix made a guide using Audacity (free audio editing program)

Sony acid is good for this - place the marker where you want the tracks to start and hit N. Then under tools choose burn disc at once cd and your done.

There is no 'REC" button on the screen of my itch. Just got the latest version. Could anyone give me some help?

Do you have a controller plugged in? You cannot record without one connected.

www.serato.com Click on the Itch 1.5 Screenshot and you will see it next to the mix button.

Hey Agz - you are using the V7 - I posted in your help thread saying that due to the mixing being done outside of the software (ie. on your DJ mixer) then ITCH can't record your mix. This is a physical limitation of hardware components like this.
Dj BassBoi 2:04 AM - 1 June, 2011
Serato Itch is all new to me. I'm wondering if you can record your recorded mixes on to a cd. Does anyone know if you are able to do that?
DJred24 9:46 PM - 1 June, 2011
Go to Music look up Serato Temp folder for recording Drag Drop file into your Burning CD software
DJred24 9:49 PM - 1 June, 2011
Music folder = My music how ever labeled, Click on Serato, clik recording temp folder. You can also play back your recordings as well in ITCH.
DJred24 9:49 PM - 1 June, 2011
Record your sets to WAVE file. IT' should be in your settings tab in ITCH software.
djsquizz 12:47 PM - 7 June, 2011
hey matt-C, what if you are using numark v7's with the Numark X5, can you be able to record then ?
DJ Quartz 3:19 PM - 8 June, 2011
The problem is Itch requires an internal mixer channel to record from. If the X5 had a built-in interface then the ability to route a record channel via asio internally would be possible allowing you to record in Itch from the mixer with V7(S).

Similiar to how the 57SL allows recording internally from the mixer with Scratch Live.

The Numark X5 is not an ITCH device, so it won't allow you to record in ITCH I'm afraid.

However, I'd assume if you were using any mixer that was also a USB soundcard, you'd probably be able to set things up to record the mix using a third party audio application. However, I've not attempted this with the X5, so I couldn't promise you anything.
DJ Quartz 4:33 AM - 9 June, 2011
^ That being said Matt...

Is Serato looking into any mixer support possibilities with Numark and other Itch supported vendors?

For instance Numark has a few mixers models with the 'USB' designation that allows you to record from the usb channel with your PC/MAC.

So if you connected V7's and say a M6, then Itch could enable an external record mode for approved mixers to record from the usb channel.

So the only RCA cables that would be needed are from the V7's to the mixer and then the USB cable from the mixer can connect to the laptop along with the V7's for recording.

While we have a policy of not discussing development work in public, the above is answered by the core concept behind ITCH. ie. ITCH hardware is developed by Serato and ITCH Partners from the ground up.

Meaning, we won't retrofit any hardware to 'suit' ITCH. So no, we won't add in support for existing hardware for ITCH as that isn't ITCH's goal sorry to say.

As I mentioned, you can achieve this most probably with another program such as Audacity and grabbing the audio of the mixer as the soundcard for that application, not as elegant, but should result in the same outcome.

I guess there is good and bad to that model.

So in otherwords y'all have to wait for a new mixer to pop from Numark + Serato that would have support to achieve this within Itch.

It's a feature that will obviously be handy for users of the V7's over having to run a secondary application and soundcard to capture an aux-out/tape-out channel .

I mean you could run the aux-out/tape-out channel to a RCA-3.5mm adapter cable and record from the laptops internal soundcard line-in channel but not all laptops have great audio chips to product a good clean recording signal.

You are right, not all laptops have good soundcards. In fact, many cheap PCs don't at all.

I would probably assume that anyone with a cheap PC will probably only want to spend a cheap amount of money on another soundcard to capture the audio... (though not all.)

There are actually many good quality soundcards that are very affordable for recording, it's not anywhere near as simple as pressing Record in ITCH, but it isn't too hard. It's an unfortunate drawback of some types of setups.

But yes, this is a blessing and a curse! However it is what it is, and focused development work means that things are locked. Like Apple vs Microsoft. Each platform has pros and cons.
DJ Quartz 3:37 AM - 15 June, 2011
True, but I'm still a little surprised that the X5 didn't have at minimum a record out usb channel for such a purpose.

Matt-C 4:28 AM - 15 June, 2011
Can't you use the X5 as a soundcard as it is?
DJ Quartz 1:49 PM - 15 June, 2011
There is no usb interface on the X5, only digital outputs.

Matt-C 11:05 PM - 15 June, 2011
Ah, you're right sorry.

I guess it was because they wanted to keep this entry level, and not blow the budget massively with USB soundcard functionality.
DJLD 10:59 AM - 27 August, 2011
Will ITCH ever be able to record separate channels or record in to Ableton? If so when do you expect that it will be released?
Machette the Dj 9:53 PM - 21 September, 2011
So to see the rec ft u must have the decks connected, cause when their not, that rec display is not availble
DJitz 9:42 PM - 9 October, 2011
Ok so i have had an issue. I just spent the last 30min recording a mix. I saved it and when i play it back its just a flat line for the entire 30min. No noise at all? Can anyone tell me what has happened?

bouncecouncil 5:07 PM - 22 January, 2012
I was recording a set for a demo and about 30 minutes in, the mp3s started skipping which, you can guess, isnt in the original file. Lo and behold, it recorded those skips as well. Any remedies floating around the web?
hamplifier 8:01 PM - 22 January, 2012
