So how long until we see a version of serato scratch live for the new Apple iPad. Everything controlled via touch. Now that would be nice... Although i'm not sure how the drivers would work for your mixer...

Hopefully never. The iPad is an epic failure. If it was running a touch-friendly version of Snow Leopard, it might have been interesting. As it is, it's an oversized PMP.

in the future some sort of apple tablet "like" the ipad would be cool but this wont be the one! we probably have a couple of years before that happens.
DJ Mitchzilla 10:38 PM - 28 January, 2010
Yeah, Serato needs to get on making an iPad application for Scratch Live! That would be sweet.

Sure, maybe the iPad hasn't necessarily lived up to all the hype - But I still think it looks really cool! The only quarrel I have with it is that it seems to only work with a monthly service fee from AT&T, as opposed to just working like a regular computer with a Wi-Fi connection.

I've heard that Microsoft is developing a tablet style computer as well, so we may have something coming sooner than we think.

Is this what you're talking about?

I don't think tablet DJing is a bad thing at all if the tablet is designed right for DJ's... just look at the Reactable for example, and imagine the possibilities this could bring to DJing and Live PA:

I think it would be cool if you could drop a music device on a table, and be able to sift through your record collection by hand on a tablet. Kinduf like in iTunes when you scroll by album picture.

It could be; I'm not sure. It looks cool though! I only heard about Microsoft's development of a tablet computer through one of the tech guys on NPR when he was discussing the iPad. But it would only make sense for them to come out with something to combat Apple, however inferior Microsoft's product may prove to be. But, who knows? Maybe Microsoft will blow us out of the water with something as dynamic as the iPad, while at the same time addressing some of the iPad's shortcomings.

Yes. And to my understanding, the iPad is pretty much "application driven," so it would seem that most of its compatibility for DJing would depend on the integrity of the application.

That being said, it obviously needs to have a non-delayed keypad, which I don't know if it does or not. My experience with a lot of the "touch screen" devices is that when you're typing, it can take a millisecond or more for the text to actually register on the screen. And that could be a big problem for DJs when trying to use the keypad for the "loop" feature or "cue," etc.

why not just get that aftermarket mod to turn your mb/mbp into a touchscreen tablet? the additional cost (if you already have a mb/mbp) is cheaper than buying an ipad plus you get full blown os x.

I have no Idea this is ohceedee's topic personally it doesnt intrest me to go smaller
unless it gives an advantage
Nazzid 12:29 AM - 31 January, 2010
skinnyguy... where did you see thats it's cheep to do that?
skinnyguy 7:54 PM - 31 January, 2010
hmm....coulda sworn it was much cheaper....after re-reading, i guess i was wrong....i thought it was another place but i couldn't find the "other" website...anyways, axiotron does the mod. and it seems like it's more costly for the mbp mod...but hey, u get full blown osx...

the only hting the Ipad would be cool for is to use in tandem bluetoohed to the laptop
controlling the library. to free up more space on laptop...fill the screen with the 4 decks and fx control....and make the library scroll like the iphone...with four buttons across the top to send the tracks to the corresponding decks.

that's kinda what I was thinking of too, however I would leave the library on the laptop and bring the controls for effect, looping, cue points etcetera to the iPad because these functions can benefit a lot more from tactile control than the library.

Or add some view-switcher, so you can just switch views and change from library to 'control' and back.

I think that would seem like something realistic and perhaps even interesting to do.

Since it doesn't exist, I don't think anyone has seen it yet, especially since the iPad isn't in stores yet.

This is just a "wouldn't it be cool if..." post by Ean Golden who's thinking about the possibilities just as we are.

there's no way they can cut either program enough to make it possible to run on the Ipad

Oops, sorry to smash that dream :o)

Well, I don't think it's a very good idea to run SSL or traktor off the iPad, but I think it would make for a great addition to the computer, you know, if you could use it as interface/controller, to controll your library, several functions and such, but have the processing still done by your PC
