Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

intelligent crates / file handling

Hi!

I hate that if i move music files on my hard drive, SSL doesn't recognize it and i loose all my crate information if i reorder my files on the harddrive.

But the solution is so easy:
as you store internal information in the files anyway, you could easily ad a hash-code like MD5 or something similar, and use this as identification and only store the Hash-code in the Crates (for sure you must not include tag information in this hash code as it can change)

Ever you move files on your harddrive and rescan tags it won't effect your crates, everything can be managed automaticly by serato.

i have been waiting for a feature like this to be added since day one Toby.... i hope they take this suggestion seriously! :) It would make migrating to a new laptop or a backup laptop much easier when it comes to crates!

it's exactly what i want too and seems not be so complicated to do it.
Please Serato Team!!

boo, I was hoping there was a way for me to keep my crates....

if you are moving MP3's etc between laptops just keep the file structure the same, then you can just copy the files in the scratchlive folder onto the new laptop also and the crates will be available on the new laptop.

there is no support for detecting that a MP3 has moved location on the same laptop.

sure, but if you just move files on one and the same pc for example for reorganizing something or just rename some files or whatever, your crate information would be lost.

By using a hash value or even all crate information inside the file, it would just cause you to drag and drop your top music folder and serato could recognize all the crate information by rescanning tags.

yeah this would be seriously a nice addon..and will not change the application negatively..for building crates i need a mouse, i hate using the mouse.. ;-)

thats the whole purpose homey, i def agree with this. I dont use itunes to organize crates, rather add physical directories on my external for new joints.... ex: MUSIC/URBAN/CLUB_NEW/OK/OK.mp3

Being I organize shit this way, i have a big tendency to move things around, etc. Ive been slackin as far as keeping shit organized physically because of this very prob. Instead i just organize in crates and leave them where is. I know this seems redundant, it is to a degree. But having this feature avail would be dope, hey itunes does it.... why not serato

yes yes, i agree. I relocate files all the time and have to remember to reload my crates.

guys...i know you mentioned this, but in case some people don't know: mac + itunes fixes 75% of these issues.

on a mac, when you move a file, itunes still knows where it is...and you can build intelligent playlists in itunes too, for example songs within a certain bpm range, or songs that contain certain tags in comments will automatically be added to the lists, and therefore appear in serato whenever you start it up.

i hate itunes
DJ_Motion 6:07 AM - 7 May, 2007
^^ not all o us use macs... when I move a file it is read in intunes twice... the orginal file ask me if I want to locate it... this is a pain....
