TTM 57 setup for Cool Edit

Ok i know you can record in TTM57, but i like using Cool-edit to multitrack stuff. Looking at the back of the mixer is there a way to set up to record into cool edit? Before i got the mixer i was using a DJM 400. I had my speakers going into the master and i had Rcas going from the mic input on the computer to the back of of the DJM. Well, with the TTM i can't seem to get anything to pass into Cool-edit. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance

I don't use cool edit, but if I understand correctly, you just need to run an 1/8th inch out of the mic jack to some sort of output from the mixer. 1/8" stereo to dual RCA is probably the easiest cable to find (as compared to 1/8" stereo to dual 1/4" or 1/8" stereo to dual XLR cables.) I believe the "Booth out" uses RCAs. That's probably your best bet. If that's not what you're asking, forgive me. As I said I don't use Cool Edit.

Yeah i know what you're saying. Nah, on the booth openings it's not RCA. I'll just play around with it when i get home. I hooked everything up for the first time last. I might have to get a female adaptor going to my mic out on the computer. I did however pick up the 1/8 XLR cable with the male RCA ends. I think if i get an adaptor i'll be good to hook. Thanks bro

Lt, well you can record, but you cant record while SSL is running :( This is a limitation. If you close the SSL application and then start Cool-Edit again you should be able to see new sound card inputs.

Ok. I'll give it try when i get home. Yeah i was wondering how to do it. Now that i think about it that sounds right. I can always import my instrumental in track one and record my vocals in Track two. Thanks Nik

Great thing about the TTM57 mixer is you can record both channels (PGM1 and PGM2) at the same time! Separately! Post fader!
So lets say you have a mix (PGM1 and PGM2=, then you record both at the same, both will be recorded separately. Why is this great? Lets assume you mess up a mix, you can just mute one channel inside your DAW and just overdub it with another take.
Clear?

I'm looking to pick these connectors up, This will allow the XLR outputs to be used to connect to my amp thru RCA cables and then use the AUX output RCA connections to connect to my PC.
www.decks.co.uk
You can also get similar connectors to use the Jack booth output with RCA cables too.
they are also handy to have if you are taking your mixer to gigs as you never know what connections they will have.

Nik,
I'm new to the whole TTM thing. Post Fader? Separate recording? Explain brefly if you don't mind? It's 125 degrees here In Iraq and i have some fried brain cells :-)

I always have a set of different connectors with me... club owners dont always take care of their systems, some have strange mixture of cables, connecters, adapters and whatever.

Lt, imagine you have
* song A on PGM 1
* transition to song B on PGM 2
* transition to song C on PGM 1
* transition to song D on PGM 2
* transition to song E on PGM 1
* transition to song F on PGM 2
... and so on.
Now you mess up the mix from E -> F. What now? Record everything again? No. Imagine you have PGMs recorded separately (not everything mixed together). You can easily redo transition E -> F.
Or... while the transition from E -> F you opened the crossfader too early which sounds awkward. Record the whole mix again? No, you have both channels separately record in your DAW, just mute song F until you want it to hear. That wouldnt be possible w/o having both tracks recorded separately.

Ok i got ya i think. Ok when you first got to select to record mix what you are selecting. Lastnight was my first night putting everything together. I just selected the first option in the drop menu. So, you saying don't do that cause everything will be recorded together right. I'm bout to get off in couple of hours so, i'll look at and do some test. This will be Day 2 in my figuring this thing out stage. Thanks for the help Nik

You're welcome.
The problem is.. if you use the 57's SSL you can only record the complete mix. If you are not using the 57's SSL you can record both channels separately at the same time. So either you use real vinyls or you use a second SSL attached to the 57. Awkward solution. But I hope Serato listens and adds a different solution.

Duh (homey simpson sound), I got ya now. That's the problem bro. I'm in Iraq and i converted everything to MP3's. So, i'm doing exact what you said above. I'm using 57's SSL. With all of this dust and lack of space bring all those crates would be suicide.

so nik, i haven't tried this, but according to what you posted, if i use my 57 + SL1 i can record PGM1 and PGM2 simultaneous post fader in my multrack app right? that is a mixtape setup right there.

I don't think you can do this yet until Serato release updated drivers that allow you to select the inputs. Currently you can only record PGM 1 pre fader and the master output. Hopefully the updated drivers should be available soon.

Naw man,
You can only do it if you are using Vinyl. What i did last night was record into the mixer and then imported it into Cool edit from there. Also, you can only do what nik described if you're not running Serato. Then the 57 will act as your soundcard. Hope that helps you.

Could you run serato with an sl1 on one computer, and the 57 as a soundcard on another computer and do it that way?

What is use to do is hook my SL1 to my Pioneer DJM 400 and run the mic input from the computer to the Aux on the mixer.

If your going to use two computers might as well get an external soundcard.(m-audio audiophille is a good inexpensive one($110)) This way you definitely can record your SSL mix or vinyl/cd mixes...

Thanks Ace. I just copped one last week. Just waiting on it to come in. I got the Fire wire Audiophille..

pron,
You can only record each channel seperatly when not using SSL (with normal records or using an SL 1 on a different computer)
Then you need to install the ASIO drivers from the public beta section on the forum.
Then you will be able to choose to record both channels post fader in an ASIO host.

oh, this works thru the usb cable? thanks!
I thought you can route the outputs, so you'd have channel one at the master and channel two on the aux. kinda like the sa8...
