i dusted off a pair of 1200's the other day. one of them has a slight problem with the pitch. if i attempt to speed up or slow down the pitch from 0 the platter will actually pulse or "wobble". you can see the strobe light dots rapidly moving back and forth. anyone had this or have any suggestions?

it may be the slider/potentiometer.
i had this when cola juice got spilled in it..
Just cleaned it with some IPA suitable for electronics and a cotton bud.
Had to take it out the turntable to do so. You can search for the technics service manual online.......i got it somewhere.
It will be behaving correctly at 0 because the zero switch is engaged and that overrides the potetiometer position....
If you have 2 decks try swapping the good one into the broken one first to see if it solve your issue

+1 ... clean the pitch pots out... heavy dust can cause your fluctuating speed symptoms as well.

How do you clean em? Just a wet cloth? Also is it possible to clean em and keep the pitch knob in the same position? I dont wanna try to adjust the pitch knob again. I'm having fluctuating pitch problems too.

Im pretty sure i took it out the deck to do this but just spayed some IPA on cotton bud and some inside slider/pot, then wiped a good few times till i could see the cola was gone...

if the dirt/cola/wahtever is around the zero you WILL have to move it away to one end to clean that area......no other way to do it.....but that wont matter because when at zero technics ingage a switch to over-ride the pot/slider position and will play turntable at zero.

No I disabled quartz lock so it doesnt do that at 0 anymore. And I thought you were talking about the blue pitch knob under the platter lol. Maybe I should just clean the pitch sliders first, I'm sure they're dirty.

I wouldn't recommend touching the pot under the platter. I did that once and had to reset it all using a frequency counter......
yep defo clean them sliders.......and a good test would be to swap the pitch control slider board with a good turntables one then you will know for sure if that is whats causing the problem......

and to clean em you have to open TT anyway as the hole (from outside) on the TT is too narrow

ohh just for your info- quartz lock aint what locks it to zero.
quartz lock is feedback from platter that knows if its spinning a little too slow(from what pitch slider position is tellin it). Quartz lock works at all speeds.
so if you slow platter down during a mix/blend quartz kicks a little more juice into motor to bring it back to "set" speed....you can see the strobe lights trying to "catch up" when you slow platter
No good for mixin- ive disabled quartz lock also.......and ive also disabled what the switch does- sets to zero

Well I just sprayed it with Deoxit from the outside with a straw sticking into the pitch fader. I sprayed in about 3 different spots for each fader, and it works a lot better now! It only fluctuates about 0.3% at the most but before it was almost always 0.5%! Once I stop being lazy about fully opening my tables (in a few days), I'll clean the faders out even better, that'll probably fix it.

Yeah thats what happens, its wack.. Always demand a tarp. Also bring a good fan cuz even with a tarp, the heat will still warp the records. Also flip the records over every once in a while to make it even.

Have same issue with Technics 1200 MK 5. Pitch at +2 causes it wobble after an hour of use. Turntable stabilizes after cooling. Sometimes the turntable changes speed from 33 to 45rpm.

been there... good chance this is the fix.

cost of the part is around $1. Worked for me and my MK5
