ok, im picking up video sl from guitar center tomorrow, (woohoo!!) ive been practicing with the demo for months but i have a party the 21st so thats why im buying it,, i was wondering if serato always runs kind of slower while running sl, like the waveforms stutter or i dont know, is not as smooth as when i only run mp3's, is it cause i have all my videos (like 200) in my internal hard drive? will it run smoother if i use an external fire wire hard drive? i already have my set and dont need more videos for this party, i notice that if i use instant doubles, the music switches instantly but the video takes about a second to swich channels, thanks for the help!!!

Your computer might be under specs or just barely making it. It should run just fine. If you do try an external hard drive, try one with firewire.

just play with the settings. to me the low spec there is the graphics. you don't have a garbage machine. you did the same as i did. a year and a half ago i bought a brand new laptop with great specs to run SSL. and it ran SSL smoothly like i wanted, but i didn't think i would be getting into video as fast as i did. i started doing video and after purchasing everything (i thought) i needed. i needed a new laptop and that was a bummer. but i ended up having the opportunity to get a MBP later on and i couldn't have been happier.

one thing i did do with my old laptop, i played with the display settings in SSL to help the settings in VSL. i lowered my cache and refresh rate dramatically in the display section in the setup tab. you may not have to do drastic changes like i did, but maybe try that. lower your cache and refresh rate settings. then play with your VSL settings after.

I run a black macbook and have no trouble doing video. I would suggest upping your ram to 4gb.

My macbook is actually only 2GHz and it runs VSL and SSL just fine. :) I don't go nuts on the settings though. All standard. (no misquote)
