TeleStream Screen Flow Users

djbigboy 4:02 AM - 11 November, 2009
I downloaded the trial version, fired it up and started recording. Or so I thought. I recorded only my main screen but not my secondary display (which would be the videos). I didn't even record audio but I got that figured out.

So my question is: How do I get TeleStream to record my secondary (alternate/video) display?

I was thinking maybe it didn't record it because I didn't have my DVI cable in (therefore the secondary display wasn't on until I opened VSL). Or perhaps there's a setting that I can't find (after going thru their site and their forum).

My other feeling is that perhaps they won't let me record the secondary display until I buy the full version. I only have the trial version.

Thanks

you have to select it when you FIRST opened screen flow...if you did not do it THEN (when first running the program)... select start new recording and you will see a small transparent window with a checkbox "record video from" and a drop down to choose where to record from...

after you do this you never have to start a recording by Opening the software you simply need to hold "shift and command" and the press two to start the recording.

Also the audio must come from your dj mixer back into the mac....best to use your aux with a 1/8 plug to rca cable

yeah i got the audio part...but still not getting the video part...i will report back
Dj Ace 7:38 PM - 11 November, 2009
your second screen has to be connected also....then open screen flow under applications click file then new recording...change the source and your done
djbigboy 10:58 PM - 11 November, 2009
cool - I believe you are right

demo disc here I come

OK - reporting back. Just testing it. I got it to work. I think the thing that messed me up was that it says record from "Color LCD" and the other option is "NTSC/Pal". Once I selected that, I had no problems.

It seems like the audio needs a nudge up, is that something Screenflow users are finding. It might have been a funky file for me to test, it was a mash up.

Thanks for the help, once I get a mix actually recorded, I will post a link and peeps can see the results.

I assume once you are done recording the mix, you output it and then edit in your editor of choice?

thanks anytime... i export in lossless at 100% file size ...then open iMovie and import it there then after im done editing it I export to IDVD and get really good results...widescreen and looks really good even on a plasma/lcd

Dj Ace 4:56 AM - 13 November, 2009

Dj Ace 4:57 AM - 13 November, 2009

can you explain how i convert finish product from screen flow into dvd using imovie? thank you.
Dj Ace 5:10 PM - 15 November, 2009
I just did...you have to export it imovie THEN export it to iDVD

when you first open your exported screenflow file with imovie you have to select all from the 'new event area' and drag this clip to the 'project library' after that finishes click on share at the top and export to iDVD

thank you.

no problem that what the forum is for...it took me trial and error to figure this out coz there is no manual for iMovie or iDVD that i am aware of

Ace don't slap me rookie on the Mac but why would you have to bring into I movie first and what are you doing in Imovie . I know screen flow adds tracks for you if you like so couldn't you take it to idvd. I ask becuause I know how to do it on PC but have never done anything on a MAC.... So I want all the info I can get so I can try one and it works.

FYI I took my lossless video this weekend and dragged it over to Imovie uhmmmmm it said somthing like 40 hours remaining what's up with that. Of course I didn't do it like you did above as I just dragged it over there. Now evertime I open Imovie it starts back trying to finish it.. UHHHHHHH>... How long does this process take?
djbigboy 6:01 PM - 17 November, 2009
The trial version for Screen Flow sucks...big AZZ water marks...but it seems to work ok, and I think I prefer to do this then to burn a dvd and re import...

Yes, exporting takes forever....
Funkytownstopsix 6:51 PM - 17 November, 2009
lol im talking bout the importing never made it to exporting.

how long is you video mix?
Dj Ace 1:44 AM - 18 November, 2009
imovie changes the apple lossless codec to a codec suitable for ripping on DVD...i think
Funkytownstopsix 5:19 AM - 19 November, 2009
59 min
Dj Ace 6:22 AM - 19 November, 2009
using lossless will take some time but it will come out very nice...and one you import to idvd you can save THAT file and burn them more quickly
Dj Ace 6:22 AM - 19 November, 2009
i usually leave in on over night

I would just copy the dvd or make two copies of it , if I needed to burn it again. So I can skip that imove and go to IDVD am I correct. I'm saying if I do that the process it would be twice as long correct or once I import it to Imovie it won't have to encode again in I DVD. I just want to save as much time as I can. Yet I think what I will do is just use a 3 min vid and waste a few dvds to see how this would work.... thanks ACE..
Dj Ace 1:17 AM - 20 November, 2009
exactly correct just save the iDVD fie...and burn from there....one thing i noticed it automatically makes the dvd's widescreen must be a setting in iMovie or something? Anyway they look good tho

djbigboy 7:29 PM - 13 January, 2010

Joshua Carl 9:15 PM - 13 January, 2010
Is there a PC comparable version of these programs?
(I knoe theres not one for ME)
Funkytownstopsix 10:44 PM - 13 January, 2010
Say Ace I made the DVD and this is what I did...I used screenflow to record the mix. Before exporting the mix I went in and added cue's with names, like Rock Right now by Snoop I did this for every song played in the mix. Then saved as lossless and this is important part with screenflow check the box that says add cues. Once that got done I brought into IDVD and all the cues were there,,,,, or you can call them chapters,,,, it was sweet. Then I burned the DVD it came out very nice plays really good on my P3...
Dj Ace 4:08 AM - 14 January, 2010
Good to here...and thanks for the extra tip I did not know about that...I use imovie and separate the the tracks/chapters but this seems easier
