Yes and no. You could easily sell your "old" SL1 box and get most of your money back, but then if you want to use SSL, then you'll have to take the mixer with you everywhere you gig. It might not always be possible to hook up your mixer at a gig since they'll probably already have one hooked up. So, I'd probably suggest keeping the SL1 box as backup for gigs that you can't take the 57SL with you.

It's got the same faders as the 56, which is highly regarded as the king of scratch mixers.

Yo,I just copped me a TTM57SL.I didn't have the the seperate hardware,I just went right into getting the mixer and ya just scared me on that topic.Did I make a mistake in getting the TTM57SL?Or should I have invested into the TTM56 and SSL seperate?I'm just getting back into the battle and club scene.I hope it wasn't a waste of my loot...I could have also saved like $300.What do u guys say?

I saw serparate. The 56/57 is the most butter mixer out there. But if you're rockin parties, I feel like buying a mixer without effects isn't a good idea. I bought the Pioneer 909 and it's the best sh*t ever for me. So my vote would be separate SL1 box. The 57 seems dope as hell, but I'd rather keep controling things from my laptop and have a boatload of effects to use.

The 57 has effects, they are not currently quite as easy to use as Pioneer effects but they already sound a lot better. Rane/Serato will release new effects as well as updating the existing ones. Over time the effects will become far better than those offered on the Pioneer.

How soon will the new effects be available, and will it be an update or something we have to buy?

I am also thinking of buying the 57 but I'm not sure if I should buy the 56 and a pioneer efx 500 or just keep my tascam X-9.
It seems like most people use the 56 with a pioneer 500efx, but I don't want to have to plug in so much gear. What do you guys think?

Noone really knows when the new effects will be available, I would say fairly soon as Rane mentioned them a while a go. The effects updates for the 57 will be part of new firmware which will be released along with new versions of SSL, I would expect 1.7 to have some and 1.8 to have more etc.
As with previous versions of SSL these will be free for everyone (obviously the effects will only work on the 57).

For me the most exiting thing about the 57 is the potential, there is almost nothing the mixer can't be made to do with a new firmware.

not worth the money if you already have SSL box, Like others have said..... way eaiser for you to carry around the SSL box and hook it up to just anything and anywhere, Plus those effects, and the browsing with the mixer you will hardley use. so much easier to type the name you are lookig for when you have 30,000 songs like I do

relative mode is where all the benefits are with the 57.

when I first got the 57 I was always in absolute mode with SL1.the mixer was good for using the echo effect and scrolling through crates etc...but the echo was only thing that I was using that I couldn't do with my 56/SL1 set-up

but I started to play with relative mode after that and it comes alvie with it.... using the cues, loops, instant doubles etc.. all from the mixer, opens up lots more possiblities with serato and makes the 57 a worth while buy.
