I just bought an Uberstand, it's a little shaky. I'm not hammering on the laptop or anything but first impression made me wonder how it will fair later on in stage show settings etc when i'm backing up artist on certain platforms.

I'm not a fan of that twist tie either, they should've had something to either snap it in place or maybe the screws on the side should be able to tighten/loosen.


I had actually planned on buying the Odyssey before, my only thing was that it looked as if the Uberstand was better for squeezing into tighter spaces (misquote?)


Anyway, can anyone give me a heads up? I'm thinking about returning it for the other.

Also, doesn't the Odyssey stand taller?

I use a 1 inch piece of velco wrapped through the loop and around the bottom. It's much more stable and works great.

I get them at Lowes.

I was thinking about that, i don't drink at my gigs anymore but there is the odd birthday party where i get utterly trashed, and I can see myself snapping that thing out of impatience.

I actually have some here for cables, so i should try one of those.

I have the L-Stand Mobile and I love it. I thought about the Uberstand but it was too shaky for me.

Yeah it felt really shaky, i only used it last night but i didn't expect it. Like I said I do stage shows sometimes and some places can have really bad stages, also in the rare event that i would do a boat cruise or something, i can imagine it moving around quite a bit. How well does the L stand fit into awkward spaces?

The bottom of it slides right underneath my mixer, and is only slightly wider than my DJM-400 Pioneer mixer.

odyssey lstandm is better i have a new uberstand put away...wobbles too much. i use the stand clamped on to my coffin better

I just mean in terms of showing up to a club with an akward Dj booth, say I have to put it diagnally in the corner, it would seem it may be difficult since the stand is built with the two outer supports. Also one club I go to, there wouldn't be much room except for sliding it into the back space behind the mixer, and maneuvering it in, it may be tough.


And props on the video, it looks a tad bigger to fit in my bag, but when I heard it snap into place it was music to my ears. I felt a little safer (even though it's not even my stand LOL)

Yeah it fits well in all of my dj booths, I have never had an issue with it. I think that you could definitely find a way to make it fit in a really tight booth. What were you using before?

Size wise it fits well into my backpack and is comprable in size to my MBP 15" And yes, The top locks into place at very comfortable slight angle, and it is quite safe. My local dj store stacks tons of ish on top of them!

the two outer supports are no wider than the bottom support of an uberstand (if it is it's not by much), so i don't really see your point?

and i just don't see how it'd be any harder than the uberstand to slide it behind a mixer in any club?

i got the first L-stand, and it stays at home in the studio now, as i got L-stand-M and it's the shit...

it's sturdy, folds up flat, and the height's adjustable if you need it to be (unlike the uberstand)...

you can even adjust the angle the laptop sits at if you need to...

i highly recommend it!

I like it except for one thing. In order to use the laptop "hooks" at the end of it you have to extend the base away from the mixer...I don;t have that much room.

Also, no shelf for the SL1 :(

Yes it folds flat, yes its height adjustable, yes you can change the angle the laptop sits at.
It takes five seconds to set up and there are no removable parts.
The feel of it is just solid. There is nothing flimsy about it.
If you watched Jazzy Jeff at the 2009 VH1 Hip Hop honors you would have seen him banging on his laptop that was sitting on the L stand. The thing was bouncing up and down like crazy. That would not happen when using the Crane.
I would probably be suspect paying $150 for a laptop stand too but once you see the thing in person the cost is not an issue.

i have never even seen the Crane stand before. but just from looking at it i can see that it is def one of the best stands out if not the best. The thing that is so funny to me is that lots of people complain about it being more money, just like when a better DJ charges more money for having been in the Bizz longer, having more experience, and having better equipment. Like the saying goes you get what you pay for. Its like asking to get a Lexus IS 250 for the price of a Corolla its just simply not going to happen .

Fack! I just went into the store where i bought my Uber and told them I'd be exchanging it for an L once they got it in. I thought the L was sturdy

the L stand is sturdy... i'm a big critic of this stuff and i find it perfectly sturdy. not sure what dude's talking about...

it's definitely more sturdy than the uberstand, that's for sure...

the Lstand-M's height can go up to 14.5", the crane is only 13" at it's highest...

looks like the crane might be a lil' less bulky when folded flat, but not by much... and i'm not sure if it weighs more or not...

i'd have to try one and compare in terms of sturdiness...

but i just can't see the crane being that much better than the Lstand-M to justify it being more than double the price.

if it is significantly smaller when closed (folded flat) then that'd be a a major selling point for me (to fit in my bag more easily), but i still don't know if that is worth the extra deniro...

In Zachs defense, he wouldn't be mentioning the product if he didn't use it himself and believe 100% in the product. Zach is a man of integrity and knowing him 10 + years, if he thinks it sucks, he'll say it sucks, regardless of if your his friend or not. Trust me. lol

The Crane stand really does blow the competition away. Time will prove that to be true, I have no doubts.

I called "The Crane" company and left a voice mail message, and they got back with me super quickly. The staff seem friendly, and very knowledgeable about the product. Although I agree that there are other products that are not quite as costly, and I have used some of them (Uberstand for about a year and a half now), but it does seem to give in a little bit to me. I am not really confident in the strength of it. So much so, that really I now longer use it, and it is just in the bag.

If you tried to contact the company in the past and didn't get a response back, you might want to give them a call ;-) Who knows, they might throw something in for free to get your business- you know to seal the deal.

I checked it out and am definitely thinking about it, but could you just help me out with a few questions since you own it?

First, is there any wobble at all? I have the uberstand and as soon as I start jumping I have to stop or my computer would probably fall from the intense wobble, haha.

Can you adjust the angle its at with the laptop on? Say I wanted it a little straighter without making it a flat top completely.

Lastly, how strong are the tension knobs and levers? Can they hold a laptop with lots of movement (I get a little crazy sometimes, haha) without budging?

I just wanted to reply back to this thread as I have received my "Crane". I migrated from the Uberstand (not Stanton but the original by Litlab), over to the Crane.

I have had my Uberstand for a few years now, and for the most part I was somewhat happy with it. But, now that I own the Crane, the difference in the two stands are like night and day.

Here's some pro/cons of both:

Uberstand - Priced cheaper, and came with printed documentation. Used it many many times while DJ'ing and the thing I did not like about it was the fact it would slide around easily. It never fell down on me, but I had to place it on a surface where it wouldn't slide. That was and the fact that it wobbled around, make me very very careful with it. I wish I could set it up at various angles while performing, but unfortunately you cannot without modifying the stand. I do like the fact it comes with a slot for a external hard drive or the Sl1 or Sl3.

Crane - Priced higher, and did not come with printed documentation. I have yet to use it out on a DJ gig as I have not had one since I received the unit last week. I can tell you that it is built like a TANK. Also, I do like the fact that it doesn't move around at all. I was impressed that they have these rubber rings that keep it from slipping/sliding around. I also like the fact that you can angle your laptop at an infinite number of angles. One thing I wish the unit had is a slot for a external hard drive or a Sl1 or Sl3 like my Uberstand. According to the website though, it is in the works. I wonder how much it will cost? Hmmm....

I rate my Uberstand 2.5 out of 5 stars. It just moves around too much and "feels" a little flimsy.

I rate my Crane at 4.5 out of 5 stars. I would have rated it 5 but for the moment there's not slot for a external device ;-) It is built like a tank though!

i'd like to see a comparison between the crane and the l-stand-m...

my l-stand-m is sturdy. but i think the crane might fold up more flat, making it a bit of a better fit inside my bag with the rest of my equipment.

got my crane stand in the mail the other day. fucking love it! sturdy as hell and so easy to set up and tear down with the cam lock system. it also came in a black finish that looks proper stealth.



you definitely get what you pay for, and well worth the price for the build quality and versatility. this thing is rock solid and doesnt bounce back while i bang away on the cues on the laptop. mine did come with a small manual, and also came with a cool little bag.

it fits inside my udg along with control cv, emergency records and everything else which is perfect.

5/5 for me.

My guess is an addition. They make a big deal about how small you can fold it down and if it was built into the stand then it would make it less foldable. Probably something that you can clamp around the 2 stands.

i have a road ready one that uses a U bracket to mount onto the back of my mixer case...EXTREMELY SOLID... only downfall is its size. (don't use the mouse pad or the serato tray.

thats what i got is the road ready, or at least im gettin it in the mail tomorrow, it seems like it can swivel.. and that is very appealing to me, seeing how i want to put my lappie to the side of me instead of directly in front of my freakin face! blah.....

I've started putting mine on the side now and it feels more natural. Having a laptop directly in your face is very distracting.

i wouldnt say distracting, but u rely on it too much, its blocks ur view of the crowd, plus they cant see u either... gonna try it out

I rocked with my laptop on the side for months at first ... thinking especially since im short... that I needed to see but after being forced a couple nights to go center... i feel way more at home... both hands can work the cues and searching is 10 times faster....just my 2 cents.......

plus it blocks my mixer,its such a big deal with me that i had to put in a diagram in my rider about i have to have my equipment laid out. even the hight of the equipment is soooooo important to me..I dont want back pain wile i try to get down!

got the road ready today, and im diggin it. it swivels, it adjusts in height, its very sturdy! its very well made! but as far as carrying it around.. good luck. this thing is huge and only breaks down twice, three times if u really want, but only twice is necessary . there is no carry bag... that i know of, but i will check on that. u would wanna put something on the base, to give it a little more support, especially if u bang on ur lappie or drum machine/midi device. its not gonna be easy to walk into a club with this during operation...
would be easier to set up before hand. could it be done? yea.. but it will be a pain :/
another negative is that the laptop part is very big, unless u have a 17 then it fits better, u would think they have that option, i will look into it as well, but if u like using a mouse ur in!

paid 99 bucks for this and thik its worth it. maybe i will put a video together, i didnt see any good ones on the net

mine fits right above my 800 mixer, and sits INSIDE my coffin very nicely. just remove the coffin lid, put laptop on stand, and rock on. doesn't move, and is held down by the mixer. It hovers just a few inches above the mixer and i still have access to gain controls and input switches. It also doesn't block my face from the audience (doesn't look like i'm hiding behind a screen) since it's lowish

Exactly. It's good to be practical but this is not "the best laptop stand(s) of all time"... I'd nominate the Crane stand for that. I prefer a stand that allows the laptop to be placed at various angles. This pizza stand solution has you stuck at 90 degrees.

I didn't sell my uberstand or Lstand.... I gave them to another dj in need.

I have that stand in the first video. Still works perfectly.

you damn sure did get it! haha effing awesome... hows the decks holding up? I noticed since I went white with the paint you can see what looks like tiny hairs in it since its gotten cold but the surface is still smooth as silk... platter lights and l.e.d.s still great though!

sadly the decks are in storage. I finished one but the other one still needs to be transferred into the deck plate. I'm mad at myself though because after 9 months of painting and sanding by hand, I chipped both deck plates on final assembly. Both mishaps happened in the same spot, the extra headshell holder, because I let the paint build up in the hole.

once I get grounded in a new shop I'm going to rebuild a trio of decks but I'll have them professionally painted this time.

Just picked my Crane up today. Solid!

yeah I'd have to say they same for the most part. I'm damn proud of em and they have held up perfectly for 6 months but I wouldn't mind stripping them and having them done in pearl white by a pro...
