I have a question for all you super geeks out there. Hopefully I won’t get banned for asking this….
Has anyone ever wondered if the Serato software on the computer does the emulating of the mp3 or does the sl1, sl3, ttm-57 hardware do that and the computer is just the interface to the user? Basically saying the hardware is just a dongle. I ask because serato is very very very stable (at least for me). I run a Windows PC. I’ve done over 400 shows with the same laptop and not once has it crashed. It’s so good that I thought the surely the sl1, sl3, ttm-57 does the “heavy lifting” and not the computer based on Window's track record. I think most people agree it’s pretty stable.
Anyone know?

I'm thinking the same thing. Actually, it's practically impossible for the SL1/3/TTM57 to do the emulating if you think about, since it's too cheap for that.
But especially due to the USB 1.1 connection in the SL1/TTM57. USB 1.1 is very sloooow. If you would load a larger Wav-file, it would need 5~10 seconds (?) to be transferred over the USB-cable. Since it's not taking seconds, but loads almost immediately. So I think you can assume the PC is doing all the work.
