ttm unfair advantage at comp

simonak 2:24 PM 19 October 2009
lol
so i had entered a dj comp in my uni, i emailed asking if i could bring along my mixer as hunting down a sl1 and using a pioneer600 was not sounding very apealing
this was my reply
"Serato is allowed, although we don't allow djs 2 bring in their own mixers as we're playing back 2 back from 10 and a mixer could give djs an unfair advantage. sorry bout that."

is this normal?-theres not too many comps here in the west of ireland:) should they have 4xdecks..2xmixers from back to back anyways....i thought bring a mixer would be sop....

i wonder if good records would also be an unfair advantage..or even years of experience
lol-i pulled out, reckon my drum n bass would only enrage the drunken teenage masses screaming for pophop

During DMCs Serato also isn´t allowed but I think contestants are allowed to bring their own mixers.

Maybe ask the other contestants if they are cool with playing on your mixer. Then again, everyone is going to put his dirty fingers on it ;-)

usually they have 2 setups...
this allows for quick and smooth transitions between sets, and allows the on deck
dj to get comfortable with the setup.

I usually see a 56 and an 07 pro.
sometimes they'll sneak the technics mixer in there as well.

yea two set ups would have been best..this is just a local comp, not even a specific scratch set, more about "live mixing"... but he said serato was alowd, just that the ttm57 in particular would offer me an unfair advantage!
i guess like a helicopter gunship in a horse race:)

I reckon you should grab yourself a korg nanopad that way you're 3/4 the way towards a 57 anyway. If they're letting people use serato then you could plead your case, some of the other djs might cry foul though. Personally I hate using other peroples/clubs equipment, some seedy clubs which I've played at never maintain their equipment properly. I can remember one time having to play on a really bashed up pioneer djm 600. One of the channels was completely dead, the crossfader cap kept flying off and if you moved the upfaders all the way to the top it caused heavy channel bleed.

Oh for real? To me it was always pretty much the most impressing part when big name turntablists cued certain parts on vinyl in no time with perfect timing.
In Serato please press the B1 button. Waaaooooooo!

but then i guess they will have to work harder to impress!
