Sixx, you're stupid dude... lol
Good looking out Duran...
DJ_QB... I would charge them $600 for the gig... No lower than $500 if you're local to it... You're in El Monte so that would be local... I just need to know that you'll do a professional job for me and I can let my man know that I have a top notch dude ready to step up...

QB,.. no offense man but I wouldn't trust a client to a wedding DJ who has never done a wedding. There is a lot more to it than just show up and play music. A LOT. I'd try to take stab at it K. Smith but my Oct is completely ridiculous with bookings yo! Again, QB, I aint trying to knock your wedding skills but you should at least do a few ride alongs, even if you're a club and party rockin pro.

Fo sho. Weddings are no joke. You might not even have the right type of music.

QB, I appreciate the interest but doing a wedding isn't like dj'ing a club... You need to have an extensive song collection, know how to speak well and where to speak, and also be a coordinator as well as a dj...
Tony, I will hit you up as well as kidjay...

daym k. smith does this mean i didnt pass the pre interview screening "holding gun to my head" haha just messing i know that wedding dj are no joke i wasnt worried about being able to speak clear i dont studder and i have the confidence before i started djing in clubs i was on the mic. but i know that wedding dj's need to know little details that i am not familiar with but i was jsut saying if there is a slight chance that you didnt find anyone i would cover my best. so k. smith you gonna start showing me the ropes for the wedding gigs like i said im always ready to learn im even willing to hit the thrift store and pick up a nice spiffy vest and polyestor jacket haha na but on the real i am willing to do ride alongs. if i dont have a gig that night.

Its all good bro. You're more than welcome to roll with me to a gig.. I dont mind at all. Dj'ing a wedding isn't hard but you just have to be on your "A" game all night. Become more familiar with the schedule of events during a reception (garter toss, cake cutting, toasts,etc...) Be familiar with how things go and how to keeo the bride and groom on schedule and happy... One of your biggest defining qualities as a wedding dj is how well do you work with others. Photographers, videographer, coordinator... They wanna constantly know "what's next, what's next"... Having additional copies of the itinerary answers those questions. But you have to be prepared for them anyway the moment things aren't happening on time...
I do have a wedding on this date and 10/28 also... Hit me if you'd like to roll...

weddings are tough, done a few myself.. I joined up w/ a wedding guy for training and then did a few solo. one word -> ROUGH. Today's crowds are no joke. No alcohol is like 5x the work too. My hats off to all those that do it on a regular basis and do it well.

Yeah man, not only do you need "wedding skills" but you need wedding music too. The last wedding I did, they all of a sudden wanted to hear some swing which was cool, most of us have swing music I know. But then they wanted to hear shit like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Nat King Cole and all kinds of ill shit (so the parents could dance, her words). I mean, luckily I have all that shit but I don't know a lot of club DJs who keep that stuff on their laptop. I won't even get into the "garter toss music" I had to be on the spot with, (by surprise) I went with "Joe Loss & His Orchestra - The Stripper",.. or the salsa set they wanted. I gotta admit I came up short on that one. Thing that is funny and also not too unusual is that we met before the wedding and NONE of this came up. So you have to listen to what they want and also know what they are leaving out because they don't know what they want.

as a teenager, i didn't have the luxury of a mentor DJ regarding wedding gigs. i learned as i went, mainly for relatives.... i still remember those days with my uncles handing me their wax collection (various ballroom tunes).... then when the dancefloor was on fire (some tango, chacha, rumba), my uncles would be right next to me using percussion instruments, one uncle with a cow bell-n-wood-block, another uncle with a gourd & that device that u rub a stick up and down to make that rrrrrrriip-chick-chick-rrrrrrrrriip-chick-chick-rrrrrrrrrip-chick-chic
ksound, and another uncle with bongos.

You do get the strangest requests when you got the floor packed... "Can I hear Luke - Doo Doo Brown" when you're playing a set for everybody..." People only wanna hear what they wanna hear and rarely think of all the guests. Thats our job. Keep in mind also the attitude you'll get when your answer isn't yes. Whew!!!
Meetings are a major part of this deal though. Regardssless of what happens at the event, a common comeback can always be ..."This is what the bride and groom (use their names) wanna hear..." That can get some people away...
Funny story from this wedding I just did Saturday was I kept having his crew of lil' kids (about 6 of 'em) coming over to me asking me to turn the music down because it was too loud... Wow

They weren't bad like BeBe's kids just annoying as hell... The fact that they kept coming up to me as if they had something so important to tell me was funny at first, bothersome after the 4th time...
There were some fine ladies though to keep me occupied while I was in the mix... Ooooooooo weeeee....
