eric b is president

a-swift 6:40 PM - 7 August, 2006
when eric b. is president first came out, i was living in florida at the time and the version they played on the radio is different from the one that was released and was and is still the version on paid in full.

does anyone have the original, 12inch maybe. can you tell me if it has the lyrics:

"first you said all you want is love and affection, let me be your angel, i'll be your protection, take you out and by you all kinds of things, MUST HAVE GOT YOU TO HIGH AND BURNT OFF YA WINGS"

on every version I have the part in caps is overdubbed with "make em clap to this" erasing the original lyrics. anyone have the original with the right lyrics in it. what is it on?, i'm gonna go buy it.

I'm pretty sure the version I have is the one you're looking for. It's on Zakia Records. Is the one you have on 4th and Broadway?

I got it...

Thank you DJ's for your support . . .

Yeah, the one I have is on 4th and broadway. I'll look for the Zakia version and see what I come up with. I wonder why they overdubbed that lyric though.

"got you too high and burnt off ya wings"? that's not to offensive or anything. not nearly as offensive as "she thought i was a donut and tried to glaze me"

if anybody knows the Zakia record, where to get it. holla in the thread.

I like how J-Rocc flipped the sample of that lady talking in the beginning on his Jay Dee mix. He made it say "Thank you JD"

That was fresh.

a-awift, the one I have on 4th & Bway does not have the make 'em clap over-dubbed. It has the full original lyrics. Cat number BWAY-431-A (see scan here: www.djdazz.com ).

Doh! Sorry for the typo on the name. Keyboard mixed up the letters when I wasn't looking. =)

Hmm, i have the Paid in Full (2 copies) & The Platinum Edition CD and both have the overdub on it. Weird.

My LP definitely has the overdub too; I hate that version. That's why I always carry this single with me. This is one of my "Emergency! SSL froze!" vinyls that always travels with me (only needed it once).

Hey I was correct!!! I just listened to it. Here's an ebay auction that has it...

Ahhh yes that's it. Just to take you cats back to Tampa, FL in 1986. What was hot in the clubs,, (skate rinks too, the club was AT the skate rink sometimes).

* Cameo - Word Up
* Throw That D/P
* Miami (can't remember who does it, but it was booty bass)
* Beastie Boys - Hold It Now, Hit It (right before License To Ill dropped)
* 2 Live Crew
* Run DMC - Peter Piper, Dumb Girl
* Expose - Point Of No Return
... and of course
* Eric B. Is President

I can't remember a lot of what was hot but all of the above used to get played the hell out. You could not go to a club in Tampa, FL in 1986 and not hear ALL of those. I know it's kinda of off topic but I was just tryin to see what I could remember was getting played.

That was Stetsasonic on their second album....it was called Miami Bass.

I remember being in Miami back in like 86 or 87 and seeing these cats named Jam Pony Express dj a block party...them cats had 40 peavey speakers stacked so high they had to climb on ladders to stack them....
