if you must be outside in direct sun, you will need some form of shade in order to see your screen. As far as heat goes, my HP has had many a sunny day without issue, but I wasn't running SSL at the time. I would largely think it depends on the lappy and how hot it gets.

Damn Nevoc, must be nice to be able to take those monitors out into the harsh world outside of a studio:)
I don't think I could do it.

I did it a few weeks ago. We were cool when we had shade. At the end of our set (maybe the last 5-10 min) the sun was beating down directly on all the equipment including the laptop. It felt like the records were warping as they were spinning; plus it almost hurt to touch the vinyl at times. My laptop doesn't have a fan (who designed this thing???) so it already gets hot. When the sun started beating down on it things go worse. Didn't have a problem for 2 hours straight then SSL crashes on the last song. The song wasn't ocrrupt ("Kick, Push" from digiwaxx). Just a few USB dropouts then it finally stopped altogether. Laptops with fans may be better off... not to mention it was hot as hell out there anyway.
Later on that day, Low Budget and Scottie B put their laptops in the shade out of difect sunlight. They were having issues as well with dropouts, but I don't think it was the sun. It then rained on them, so things got shut down. Peanut Butter Wolf followed and he put his laptop away because of the rain and spun his whole set on 45's. Amazing. Later that evening a typhoon came out of nowhere and we were all drenched. I snagged some pics from Google, but I wish I had my camera for up close DJ pics - then again... the camera would have been ruined by that last big rain storm.

So uhhh... be careful dude. Watch the news before you spin.

Dude those things perform SO well, we could hear those monitors 3-400 feet away over the concert that was going on like 1500 feet away. Obiously not a ton of bass, but then again thats why they sell a Sub. Also I was running about Max Vol on them on a standard 150ft extention cord to an 8k generator.

i preformed at an outdoor festival this weekend. it was hot enough to kill the power to the stage but serato nor my laptop had any problems other than having to restart the computer everytime the power cut because i cant run ssl with the battery on. good thing i bring a handfull of real records everywhere to play while the cpu boots.

thanks for all the comments. and the pics.
I think maybe I will try it outside but will be very nervous. The coolin pads seem to be kind of wipmy, but i guess all it needs to do is remove heat so maybe thats all that is required. I have that best buy one that i seen in these forums. I guess i can use the coolin pad and a little turbo fan at the same time. but woudlnt the fan just be blowing hot air anyway (if its real hot & humid outside)?
My laptop has recently started overheatin in the house when i copy DVDs. i guess that coudl cause more overheating but still nervous.
