Converting Vids

jbunks 5:50 PM - 5 August, 2009
I read in the handbrake guide (mac) that there's a way to batch covert files from a DVD, is there a way to do this from VOB files already ripped. I've been adding these one by one to the queue and it takes days.

Cheers

Even the batch from DVD is a PITA to setup. You would need to create Applescript and plist files to set it all up with the Handbrake CLI. So short answer is no. Batching is not a part of Handbrake. There are other programs out there that will batch based on a predetermined set of output specs.

Problem with that is every video file will require different cropping, aspect ratio, ect....

If you want to do it right, you need to queue each VOB file one at a time.

So even if I'm converting the PromoOnly dance videos from January to June of this year... They all came from the same place and are all ripped in the same way... You're saying I'd have to crop each before /while converting?

Exactly. There's not a catch-all method for doing this besides doing them individually. One video might need to have 8 pixels taken off of each side and 60 top and bottom. The next might only need 2 taken off of each side and 90 off of the top and bottom. That's the downside of batching.
