I started using a netbook for serato 2 weeks ago. I love it. No real dj needs to see the wave forms or bpm info so why do ya need a huge laptop... this thing sits right on my mixer perfectly. No need for expensive laptop stands and thank you serato for giving me the option to zoom my text info cause this is way sweet....... only thing I had to do is install the next best video cards driver so I could adjust the screen resolution higher than 1024x600 since serato requires 1024x768 no less... have fun here's the pic link

What version of SSL are you rocking? Experience any dropouts so far?
This makes me that much closer to getting a netbook.

I do bounce in the red a little on this mixer for some reason I seem to get real good sound when I do that....lol... I said the same thing......I'm using 1.8.3 on the netbook but thats just cause I cant stand 1.9 right now (its crapped out on my Alienware twice during LIVE gigs I'm just going to wait on that one 1.8.3 is plenty for me). Vio is coming with one and apple plus Asus just announced a touch screen netbook (tablet)

I think audio only with a 57 and a netbook would be PLUSH.
get the sound of the 57/SL3 sound cards...itti-bitty cpu!
within the next 2 years expect those to become even MORE powerful.
Id just be concerned about scrolling the library...killer on your eyes

Very cool indeed. I keep waiting for Apple to release something like this, but the idea of having a Hackintosh netbook is appealing.
I'm not surprised that Scratch Live runs well on these netbooks. I use SL on my ancient PowerBook G4 with half a gig of RAM, and SL runs really well on it. It's one of the strongest elements of SL, in my opinion.
The only thing I worry about with the Ableton-collab is that the final product will be a CPU hog. Keep DJ apps lite and portable, and stable as can be, and we'll be happy.

nice find A*.. I'm in the market to get a netbook myself (portability, don't want to run the risk of "accidentally" ruining my $1000+ laptop on sumfin, haha).. been looking around at random brands.. Will definitely hit you up with my inquiries.. no lag issues when using it live?

I've thought about getting a little tablet mini pc for a while, Thinking it'd be hard as hell if you walked in and killed it on a tiny little thing you fit in your coat pocket LOL. I also have a 36gig jump drive and thought to myself damn I can a pretty large amount of music on this walk into a club and stick it in the resident DJ's laptop DJ off that pull it out and head home afterwards. At first I thought that'd be Hard as hell (as in dope) But really do I want to trust the other DJs laptop and isn't that some sort of Rape style violation of tust? LOL.
I do like the idea of the smaller laptop, but scrolling for songs can be a pain as it is.
for me I think making the screen smaller will just add to that pain. I'd love to experiment with the idea, but I'd have to try before I buy, cause I'm not into buying redundant equipment, I'd rather expand my collection to things I don't already have.
PS- That picture of the set up and the crowd is a cool pic.

I used an aspire one with Windows XP on it.... I went into the device manager to find out what video card manufacture and driver was... I just googled the part number and driver and seen they had made a better one for an 11 or 12 inch model so downloaded it and installed it again I didnt buy it for this I just happened to get it to work.... My buddy got an Asus with windows 7 on it and he didnt have to do anything but adjust screen res... but after 6 months of use he ended up with a blue screen of death

whats up i gotta hp netbook and i had problem with screen resolution but i wanna know if i screw with the resolution and download serato if it will mess up my computer cause its my labtop for school as well and funds arent exactly goin my way to getta new one i got virtual dj free but obviously cant go to far with that at a real party or club so just wondering what my best bet would be without messin up my labtop..if anyone has a true answer thats proven it would be greatly appreciated

won't kill your laptop. it is a software thing.
if your graphic card driver supports scrolling screen resolutions, then you are fine.
if you would have to use unofficial third party drivers. then i don't know. i wouldn't do it with my own netbook ;-)

might see if those tricks work on mine. been using a 9" laptop for 7yrs and it just scrolls top to bottom in serato. would be nice if i could squeeze the display somehow......
