Decision Made!

I had the hardest time deciding on which plug-in to buy for Serato, VSL or Mix Emergency. On one hand, I really liked the small upstart company, Inklen, which makes Mix Emergency and has come out with some great video effects and options like text scrolling and cooler effects. I also loved the personal responses that Nick gave to everyone that asked. And I loved that fact that he is always looking to improve his product, and has the time and impetus to do so.
In the other hand, Serato is the creator of Serato and while their video plug-in, VSL didn't have some of the bells and whistles that Mix Emergency has, you could always be assured that their plug-in would work 100% of the time. You could not say that with Mix Emergency. Serato may have been forced one day to do what Apple does, and that is break the connection between another companies plug-in and their own software.
So, I liked the features and options of Mix Emergency, but needed the stability and piece of mind from VSL. That is the decision that I have been struggling with for almost 2 months now. Well, I finally made a decision, and it, like so many other decisions you are sometimes forced to make, was the safer one. I picked VSL.
I hope that Serato looks at this post and realizes that Mix Emergency is a very good product. And how hard it was for me to pick something that I thought, and know, could be better in order to gain stability. In one respect, this is the reason why all of us here have picked Serato vs, VDJ or some other program. But I also hope that Serato realizes that their video offerings are going to be critical in the coming months, and while audio is, and has been, their primary workhorse, video is becoming more and more of a necessary.....and I for one hope that Serato is up to the task.

Just thought I'd toss in there that, the creator of ME used to work for Serato.
It's amazing what you can find by scouring the web.
He jumped ship and made his own program. (assuming that part)

I enjoy owning both.
Too bad my cpu always runs really high when recording and then my videos from vsl stutter during the recording process, the recordings are fine, but during everthing sloooooows down, even with vsl windows closed. ME uses like 80% of the cpu.

DJ Puma, I knew that. To me, since I do not know the situation between his new company and Serato, makes me lean towards Serato even more. Did he leave on good terms? Is there any issues? Maybe, maybe not. But all those type of questions should make a person think.
And on the issue of owning both. Why, you can only use one at a time.
Once again, I would have rather have been able to get ME. But the possible outstanding issues were too much.

Not true, you can use both at the same time. You can run ME and choose the serato plugin to play all the vids. You can use ME with vsl to record or have scrolling text. There are other features as well, but not sure exactly what they are.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I would be hesitant to run both all night long (6 hours) due to CPU issues. (See other posts above).
And I have to believe that Serato wants to make a better VSL plug-in and hopefully is paying attention to what their competitor is doing.
Now, if Serato has absolutely zero issues with him, then they should say so and allow the marketplace to buy either one without any fear of the plug-in being locked out.

thats why you buy CUE/VDJ and get the best of both worlds all in one program!

I have my logo as an ambient and I load it on the other deck and crossfade in videos. Not the same but it works. lol

I have both and ME is worth it for the recording capabilities alone. Also being able to lay your logo anywhere on the screen rather than having to insert it onto all your vidz is a big plus. For those two things alone it's worth it.I have my logo as an ambient and I load it on the other deck and crossfade in videos. Not the same but it works. lol

and I mean half way so both my logo and the video show... kinda like a subliminal message. :)

I actually use a Edirol V4 and Modul8 so I will be feeding additional real-time graphics that way. But it would be nice to start moving away from the V4

I'm looking to buy a V4 before the September Bar/Bat Mitvahs.
The only reason Why I want it is for Picture in Picture with my PTZ cameras.
I really don't want to spend the money for the V4 and Video Monitors.

Check it out. I use it for real-time ...well real-time everything. Graphics, videos, logos, overlays, camera feeds, everything you can think of.

I used to do the same thing.
Then I decided to make a Transparent QTZ file with my logo for my live video mix in the bottom right corner. Still have to load it to every vid. *pain* - Some vids smooth, some vids not so much. Just gotta reload the video part again to get it off on the bad ones. ;) Looking into getting a copy of ME when the extra cash is at hand.
