Video Editors and Remixers... a reminder

If you're selling your remixes online, or you're giving them away, it doesn't matter, PLEASE follow these simple guidelines:

1 - ASPECT RATIO. PLEASE keep the same aspect ratio as the source. Way too often I have had to re-encode a video because the aspect ratio is skewed in your edited version. More often than not, I'll just delete your work or not purchase it in the first place because that means you care so little about what you do.

2 - FRAME RATE. PLEASE keep the frame rate the same as the source. If you don't, things can get jumpy and that's obvious to anyone with half a brain.

3 - DEINTERLACE YOUR VIDEO. PLEASE deinterlace your video. This is the worst - it means you so obviously don't care about your work to the point where it's still interlaced when you process it, making it look like complete garbage.

Hell, even if you aren't selling your remixes, and are just making them for yourself -- these are good guidelines to follow. Someone like a-swift or a few others can speak to this -- especially with so many cats getting into video, we're going to see an influx of poorly edited video. If you can't edit, learn. It's not an easy thing and there's a LOT to pick up. One poor move in your workflow, and it can be screwed up.

Thanks.

Another one...

PLEASE make your videos:

640x480 or 640x360 with a 1:1 aspect ratio. If they aren't, the video gets skewed. Way too often I find 720x480 with a 1:1 or a 640x480 with a 4:3. This is most often done out of ignorance - take the time to learn about pixel size and ratio. It's a pretty fundamental part of video editing.

Yeah a lot of people don't understand this.
i especially hate when the videos aren't de -interlaced.

Let's put it this way:

You wouldn't play a blend, mashup, or edited mp3 that sounds like garbage, so why do so many edited videos look like garbage? People love the music, but if you're doing video, and it looks like shit, people see that.

very nice

@ DJ Lad,

Sound advice, but where are you obtaining these "garbage" videos?
