Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

No Need for a Midi Mixer!!!

derek4real 1:45 AM - 9 July, 2009
Just thought i would let anyone else know who was wondering about this issue.
So I decided to switch over and start using vsl and do video mixing, i upgraded to a macbook pro, bought VSL, bought all the video converters and mini display adapters i needed, and was now stressing out as to how i'm gonna come up with $1500+ to buy a midi mixer, or rent one from someone and waste my $. I get everything set up and try it out on my Pioneer 600, and guess what, it worked. I've searched this forum for the past 3 weeks trying to figure out if this was possible, and the only answer i ever seen was, you need a ttm57 or a pioneer midi mixer. Now, it is not as useful and fluid because you are using your mousepad or keyboard shortcuts to do all the video fading and effects, but for me saving the $1500 is worth the minor inconvenience for a bit. Anyway, hope this is helpful to anyone else looking to go this route.
Rebelguy 2:01 AM - 9 July, 2009
You can use any mixer. People recommend the 57 or other midi mixer because you can assign the crossfader and upfaders to work. You really searched for 3 weeks? You could have called rane tech support and got that answer in 1 minute.
derek4real 2:16 AM - 9 July, 2009
Thanks for the very useful reply, i didn't really search for three weeks, i spent that time getting videos and converting them, and getting the rest of the parts together, and during that time i would look on here to see if i could get an answer. Which i couldn't, so i was just planning on figuring out a way to get a 57, until i got all the pieces together and tried it out with my 600. I wasn't looking for an argument, or my email filling up with other replies like this, i just wanted to let others know that you can use any mixer you want, which i wasn't able to find out on this forum.

or could have looked in this forum for about 3 seconds.
we appreciate the tip derek but most of us 4real know that.

btw to get past that minor inconvenience of using the mousepad or keyboard shortcuts you can use a midi controller. the nano kontrol is pretty useful.
tomatoslice 2:25 AM - 9 July, 2009
oh i see you posted while i was typing...

really you could not find that info here?!?
thats surprising.
if you do have any questions don't be scared to ask in here.
derek4real 2:35 AM - 9 July, 2009
Ok maybe i deserve the flaming, i was just frustrated, but can someone direct me to a post in this forum that explains this.

And i'm pretty sure that everyone currently browsing this forum knows this, but i bet you they'll be other people in the world who sign up to this forum and needs new information.
tomatoslice 3:00 AM - 9 July, 2009
oh yea, definitely there will be new people signing up that need new info which is why i say don't be afraid to ask.

the same questions get brought up constantly.
in a month or less we will be answering "how to convert files" again and again and again.

i could probably point you in the direction of a post that mentions that not needing a midi mixer but since i am technically suppose to be vjing right now i don't fell like doing the search, plus i am lazy.
also, i know because i personally have answered some, there was one just recently with some guy that had an 05pro.

i am just saying "if you can't find the answer, don't be afraid to ask" anything.
it will save a LOT of headaches and frustration.

if you are stepping into the realm of video, and you try to shortcut your way thru it, your going to have more problems than you can imagine. if you think about it, your going to spend at least 2,000 a year in videos, why not take another 1500 and get yourself the proper gear...

I meant no negativity or disrespect. I was merely stating that for questions about equipment and hardware it never hurts to call rane tech support. That's what they are there for. You save time and get the most accurate response available.

I have the Behringer DDM4000 and although I've had bad experiences with Behringer before and I refuse to buy it....I was happy to borrow one off a friend....it took me 10 minutes flat to link the xfader and volumes to Serato!!! And I have to give it to Behringer....they've kicked arse with this one - and it only costs about $400USD so I bought two for our clubs!!! No major problems with them ... in fact, I've had more problems with Serato so I'm currently having to use Virtual DJ!!!

I thought the DDM4000 disabled audio on a fader when MIDI was assigned to it?

i.e. the xfader will fade the video, but not the audio once assigned to MIDI
Millz 4:34 PM - 11 July, 2009
no offense but anything with the Behringer name on it is complete GARBAGE...
DJ DisGrace 4:37 PM - 11 July, 2009
^^^ +1
Kedar 6:15 PM - 11 July, 2009
i bought the ddm4000 to try thinking it may be a decent backup for my djm800. funniest thing- quick crab scratches would confuse the mixer so much that channels would jump around. literally both my decks were on channel one and then the right one would jump to channel 3, back and forth... many times landing on channel one... both together lol
SimoneRainer 10:27 PM - 19 July, 2009
Hi Kedar, I saw this on my friend's DDM4000!!! My one is flawless but he had problems with his one and so he took it back!!! Behringer stuff for ya...

and to Disgrace...if you're trying to say that you can't fade video and have audio at same time...you need to check yo facts!!! We had the boys do it at DJ Seminar here in New Zealand (where Serato was made) with the Behringer and Pioneer 800...in fact, any mixer with a midi send on the xfader will do it as long as you setup the mixer send signal properly and enable on seutp...

You might want to check your facts and the Serato forums coz there's lots of posts from guys who are doing it now!!! In fact, the Serato website is promoting the new version of Serato with that midi feature for other mixers other than the TTM57SL...
SimoneRainer 10:29 PM - 19 July, 2009
Oy yeah...Youtube has a guy who setup his midi mixer x-fader to also scroll through his music collection and select a song!!!

Simone, ur profile says you don't even own serato!

I use owner's manuals for facts, not youtube videos

page 24:
www.behringerdownload.de

even it did work, it doesn't make Behringer a quality brand by any stretch of the imagination
Rebelguy 1:02 AM - 20 July, 2009
Simone,

Why all the Behringer Spam? On the payroll? Please learn about your companies products before trying to sell them.
SimoneRainer 10:23 AM - 20 July, 2009
Disgrace (irony)....you mustn't read the owner manuals coz it discusses how to setup the Behringer for outputting a midi signal, then the Serato forums tell you how to setup Serato to accept those midi signals..its obvious you're more interested in trying to prove a pointless point than learning something...

And to Rebelguy...there are countless youtube videos and even Serato tell you that any midi mixer, when setup properly can work with Serato...

But it seems you two are not interested in the facts and choose to believe the world is round and not flat...this is why the team at Serato put this forum together, learning and progressing...you've missed the point of the forums...

Disgrace...I've got two Seratos and live across the city from the team at Serato in NZ...and I hang with CXL, the dj that promotes Serato ...check Youtube...so I don't know what you're on about...

Feel free to checkout my youtube video out this week and learn...or come to New Zealand where Serato is made and learn off our djs here!!!!

All this stuff I'm talking about is common knowledge to djs in NZ and to the more experienced Serato users...check the forums here...all the info you're doubting is all there!!!

C'mon guys, get with the program
SimoneRainer 10:28 AM - 20 July, 2009
<edit> believe the world is flat...and not round <edit>

Either way, you .just ask the team at Serato and they'll set you straight about Midi mixers...Or just check out my video posting on Youtube...if you don't mind learning something!!!
DJ DisGrace 3:13 PM - 20 July, 2009
wtf simone?

i did watch ur damn video, and it has nothing to do with this thread .... no one is saying the DDM4000 doesn't do MIDI with serato. we're saying it doesn't crossfade audio and video simultaneously - which it doesn't - case closed

wow.... u started a thread asking how to install 1.1, play avi files, and use key lock on ur cdjs - maybe u need to read the forum. I've been reading it for two years

could some "experienced Serato users" back me up here? oh wait, some already did!

scratchlive.net

please stop polluting the forum with misinformation. People whine about Mac fanboys here. The only thing worse is a behringer fanboy

This was the dumbest post I read all day...on any forum. Once again, please read what people are actually asking before you respond.

Y u guys keep entertaining this guy.? If he can do it then he can do it. : ) Even if he is the only person in the world that can, :(. Somebody has to be the first, so let it be him. U seen the video that's all the proof you need. : ) Resistence is futile you will mind.

bottom line is Beringarbage sucks. Make a mixer that you dont have to turn all the way up to get output, or one that doesnt have noise in the faders, and Ill shut up:)
tomatoslice 7:55 AM - 23 July, 2009
some club i use to play at bought a behringer. within a week the effects were broken and in a month the mixer was completely shot.
frankkutz 5:46 AM - 1 November, 2012
No Need for a Midi Mixer!!!

why because i use any mixer and use MIX Emergency and use the auto-fade

it's the by stopping any record will change the video transition automatically! i felt so relieve after buying Mix Emergency! i Hope serato comes with a auto-fade but for now any mixer i can enjoy and dont worry about midi fader!
tomatoslice 3:19 PM - 3 November, 2012
wow blast from the past.
Reading me old posts, I was a bigger dick and more helpful at the same time. If that's possible.
